When I first featured this couple in their engagement session, I knew I liked them.  They started off with champagne and ended with wine and just seemed fun.  When JL Photography sent me the photos from their wedding I knew I wanted to befriend them, go back in time, and be a guest at this wedding.  This couple, and their wedding, IS fun.  They made sure their wedding reflected them and the celebration they wanted to have.  And they, both bride and groom, FILLED it with fantastic DIY details.  I’ve been excited to share this one with you for a while, and now the day is finally here!  Grab a cup of coffee and get comfy, because there is a lot of pretty to soak in!

If you look closely, you’ll see cowboy boots on both sides in the front row – a pair in honor of Brittany’s mom and Rob’s dad, who were only there in spirit.  Such a sweet tribute idea!

Now I know that was a lot of photos, but there were so many great ones I just couldn’t narrow it down.  And there were even more that I didn’t even include so the post wouldn’t take two days to get through! And now the bride is going to share some of the details with us.
We were fortunate enough to to find a nearby outdoor location that allowed us freedom to do whatever we desired, and we desired A LOT! 🙂 To give you an overall idea of the day, we wanted the vibe to feel as comfortable as a backyard BBQ and as fun as your favorite night on the town! We were working on what some these days would call a “small budget,” and wanted to make the very most of what we had! We kept the joy, music and drinks going all night, and we would not have changed a thing!! It was quite the celebration.
What were your favorite moments of the day?
I have two favorite moments of the day.  We were going to have some children present and I wanted to have a few options of things to keep them busy while “adult” things were going on… Months before the wedding I was researching some kid friendly ideas. In this quest, I came across the idea of silly string, then had a MAJOR IMPULSE BUY!- why not share the fun with all the guests and buy 120 cans?? I was so excited Rob agreed to the idea, rather than rice, petals or bubbles, we would face the crowd after our first kiss as husband and wife, to the blasting of colored silly string from every which angle!! (I printed a poem on our program which suggested they spray up and over us as we walked by to form a rainbow.)  I thought that was a fun and unique idea, enjoyed by guests of all ages!!!

Moment number two was sitting back at dinner and taking it ALL in!! There was sooo much love in the air. Rob and I are blessed with the most amazing people in our lives. Sitting down together at dinner over a special bottle of wine, we took some time, and looked out into our crowd of guests and to see the joy and smiles and overall enjoyment going on, was to me indescribable. It was the best feeling! We had decided ahead of time we didn’t want to walk around like most people do during dinner, and would just enjoy. Right after the ceremony we took some photos and joined in on cocktail hour where we could listen to the incredible Matt Shockley and enjoy a shot of Jameson or a mason jar or Shock Top! This was such a nice time to thank people for coming and enjoy the presence of our guests. During dinner, it was so nice to sit back and relax!

How important were your vendors to your wedding vision?

We could not have had the day of our dreams if it wasn’t for all our amazing vendors and the help of friends and family. It was a day we will never forget, and never would with our beautiful photos and amazing video to capture the day in its entirety.
Our wedding music was very important to us.  We had gone to our friends 30th b-day dinner and heard a very talented man on stage. I grabbed his card and went on with life. In trying to find a musician that would play spiritual songs for our ceremony, as well as contemporary songs for cocktail hour; it was much more of a challenge than I could have anticipated. We had met with people that could do either but not both. I contacted Matt and the rest was history. He was sooo easy to work with and did exactly what we wanted.  I walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica, (a song I remember my dad drumming to as a little girl.  It was beautiful and perfect.
All other song choices he was more than willing to play and LEARN if he was not familiar with them. My nine bridesmaids walked down to an original song of his. I would recommend Matt to anyone. He plays free shows locally if anyone ever wants to check him out! His schedule is on his website. 🙂
He rocks. True Story.

Can you tell us about the DIY details?
Since it was SOOO fun, I joke with Rob all the time saying I want to have a “do-over,” (same guy of course!) because it is so rare to have all the people you love from all walks of life in one place! He laughs because, as we both know, unlike most engaged couples,  he did 90% of the work!! I think if you asked him, we would say it was all worth it, but all the details of DIY weddings can be daunting. After countless hours, our dream wedding was born.  Here’s a short list of projects we did:
Giant Chalkboards
Crates for centerpieces
Ring bearer pillows
S’mores Sticks
Chandelier above our sweetheart table
GIANT Music Video Projector Screen
Name cards
Programs
Florals

What advice would you share with other planning brides & grooms?
The day goes by so fast. The best advice I got and could give to anyone else committing their life to another in celebration of a wedding would be: Be present in every single moment. Make effort to remember it and cherish it in your heart. And secondly, ENJOY! HAVE FUN!! It sounds so simple but I think a lot of people get caught up in making sure everything is “perfect.” Don’t sweat the small stuff, or ANYTHING for that matter. Focus on the person next to you and enjoy all that is “your wedding day.”
Are you as obsessed with this wedding as I am?  I’m in love with every single detail!  The silly string (genuis), the photobooth (so fun), the booze y’all sign (perfection), the mason jars (enough said) – it is all just sooo good!  Not to mention all of that great DIY.  The bride and groom are going to be sharing some of their DIY projects with us.  So come back tomorrow to hear how to make those so-simple-but-so-brilliant s’mores sticks!
