• {Behind the Veil} Jen from Blush Printables

You may not love Mondays, but I know you love what some Mondays bring on Oh Lovely Day, and today is one of those Mondays!  I’ve got a new Behind the Veil feature for you – this one from Jen of Blush Printables.  I hope it helps and inspires 🙂

As a wedding blogger, what is your favorite part of other people’s weddings?
Personalization and the little details always stand out to me.  You can always tell what kind of couple they are by the accessories, colors and details used throughout the wedding.

What was your favorite part of your wedding?
Other than getting married?  Our dessert buffet.  They weren’t “in” yet, but we loved the idea of having all kinds of desserts for our guests to choose from.  Aside from our 4 tier cake, we had 22 pies, tortes, cakes and 3200 cookies.

What was the first piece of wedding planning you did (booked venue, bought dress, etc.)?
The very first thing we did was set a date, then secure the Church.  It was so important to me to get married at the Chapel on my college campus, and I knew they booked way in advance.   They offer three time slots, and 18 months in advance we got the last time slot available.

In your opinion, what is one vendor no wedding can be without?
    An excellent photographer.

In your opinion, what is one thing or vendor that you think brides can do without (or at least do sparingly)?

I think it’s important that couples budget wisely, then prioritize how they want to spend their money. We’re picture people, for instance, and knew we’d never watch a wedding video.  We completely eliminated the need for a videographer, and put more money into our photography and food.

What was your favorite source of inspiration for your own wedding?

We had a really hard time narrowing down what colors to use.  We were engaged long before wedding blogs became popular – in fact, I think SMP was only starting out at the time.  So I browsed Style Me Pretty an awful lot, but mostly flipped through bridal magazines.  A particular imagine in Martha Stewart Weddings really stood out to me – and we chose our wedding colors based on that image.

    Your favorite wedding memory?
Seeing my husband for the first time.  We didn’t have a first look, so the first time we saw each other was when the Church doors opened and my dad walked me down the aisle. We had a large wedding — about 300 people — and nearly everyone was at the Chapel.  I was so nervous walking down the aisle with all eyes on me, but the moment I saw Ben all my fears disappeared.
I was so excited to see him, and we both had the biggest smile on our faces.

    Your favorite wedding detail?
    My bouquet.

Were you a DIY bride?  If so, what did you DIY?
I was!  I’m a stationer, so I made our invitations, programs, table numbers, escort cards and all of the signage at the reception.  I also designed a photo book guest book for our guests to sign at the reception.  I had so much fun designing everything!

If you could offer one piece of advice to planning brides, what would it be?
My advice to all brides is not to sweat the small stuff. No one is going to know if you forgot to pack a change of shoes for the reception. Not one is going to care if dinner is served ten minutes late. And I guarantee you that no one will notice if you forgot to set out a bathroom basket. As long as you’re happy, married to the love of your life, and surrounded by those who support you… then I promise you, you’ve done everything right.

How did you make your wedding YOU?
We wanted our reception to be a gigantic celebration — so while the decor was very elegant and formal, we made sure our 300 guests could relax and have an amazing time — we had a dessert bar with our favorite desserts, picked all of the music for both the ceremony and reception and had a top shelf open bar.  I designed all of our wedding day paper goods and we worked with amazing vendors who really listened to our ideas and took our inspiration, and brought it to life.

We also had a lot of fun with our wedding pictures.  We went to our favorite sites in the city, and even rode a merry go round!  It made for some amazing pictures AND memories.  And yes, we totally smashed cake in each others faces.

Another great round of advice, don’t you think?  And a common theme seems to be to relax and enjoy your day.  Easier said than done, I know, but oh so important!  And don’t you love their cake smash photo?  Is there anything you’d like to see more of or hear more about in the Behind the Veil features?  Do you have a blogger bride you’d like to see featured?

    • This week was a rough one. I feel like I say that every week but this one really was. Today alone had me at my breaking point. All three of my kids seemed hell bent on driving me crazy. Quincy literally wouldn't let me put him down or leave the room without a major scream-cry fest. He rode around on the fuss bus allllll day. Tropical storm Calvin left destruction in his wake everywhere he went (if you follow me on snap/stories you got a little sampling but that was nowhere near the extent of it). At one point I went into a room away from my kids and sat in a chair and cried. Within three minutes one of them found me (of course) gave me a hug, and we were all better (except Calvin -- I think this is his permanent state ). This photo is my version of thinking happy thoughts. Bougainvillea vibes ✌️️✨ And just like that, summer is back Take me back to the fall weather of two days ago! Also, take me back to when this kid slept past 5 am and took naps. For a week now, between 4:30-5:30 am this kid climbs up on our bed over top of me and proceeds to squrim, poke, and annoy me till I get up. Quincy's sleeping till 6 or later FINALLY and now Calvin is waking me up!? And he refused to nap today (again) too. Seriously you guys, he's killin' me. He looks real cute in rain gear but if he does it again tonight he's headed to toddler military school. #sotiredineedanewwordfortired #calvins3rdyear #battlefieldmotherhood
You know what is a great motivator? Not wanting to be outdone by your big bro. Cause look who's pulling himself up, so he can keep up #quincysmilestones #calvinandquincy #lawdhelpme #charlieandcalsroomredo There were very few baby things I hadn't yet tried by the time I had Quincy but I hadn't really used a sling before. I got my first sling when I was still pregnant with Q and tried it with Calvin, but once Cal was walking he never wanted to be carried. He's far too busy for all that. So Quincy is the first baby I've used a sling with, and I feel like I really missed out with the other two. I had and loved other carriers with them (and still do) but there is just something about the sling that is magical and it is my carrier of choice right now. It is convenient (you can keep it threaded and just throw it on), it is cozy, it doesn't tightly wrap behind my back which always makes me sweaty, and I can nurse while Quincy is in it which has been a lifesaver. I'm actually nursing him in this photo! I'm sharing photos from our recent visit to the pumpkin patch and how I got to do all the things with my family while wearing Quincy in the sling because I didn't have to stay with him in the stroller or go find a place to nurse him. He chilled, ate, and napped in my sling. And because I love it so much I'm teaming up with @mywildbird to give one reader a sling of their choice!
