• {Honeymoon Tips} A Honeymoon in Kauai: Shopping Guide

This week I’ve been giving you some planning tips for your honeymoon, which is a series I’ll be doing whenever I can travel somewhere new and find the best places for you!  First up is the Hawaiian island of Kauai, which I think is the dream spot for a honeymoon.  Today I’m giving you a shopping guide for my Top 10 Must-Have Beach Essentials – which would work for any beach locale, and for a family vacation as well as a honeymoon.
top 10 must have essentials for a beach honeymoon by oh lovely day

    1.  This is my favorite tote I’ve ever owned, and I’ve owned A LOT of totes. It is HUGE, is lined inside so wet stuff won’t be a problem, and is so chic.  From Ooh Baby on Etsy.

    2.  I always have to have an emollient lip balm with SPF on hand and these Prada balms are my very favorite.  They come in tiny tubes, and aren’t the cheapest balm out there, but they are the best balms I’ve ever tried, and I consider myself a connoisseur of balm.  They discontinued my favorite clear one, but you can get them in a variety of tints.

    3. A beach day isn’t complete without a great pair of aviator sunglasses.  Charlie tends to break mine, so I only buy cheapies, but this Tom Ford pair is on my wishlist.

    4.  This iPhone case by Lifeproof makes your iPhone waterproof, so you can be sure it will be safe for the beach and ocean.  You can even take pictures underwater!

    5.  Sunscreen is a pretty obvious pick, but I can’t live without these waterproof spray sunscreens for kids.  Charlie will NOT let me rub sunscreen in on him, so the spray is key.  I know sunscreens can be a hot button topic, but these have always worked well for us – you pick your own favorite, just make sure to use it.

    6.  I bought this exact pair of light gold Haviannas flip flops for my vacation.  The color matches everything and they always leave me blister-free.

    7.  These turkish towels are perfect for the beach – they are much smaller than regular beach towels, so they don’t take up your whole beach bag, they dry faster, and you can use them as a sarong or scarf too.  I have them in blue and orange and love them.

    8.  A beach read is always a must for me, although I don’t really get to relax and sunbathe with a book now that I have a kid.  But this was my vacation read, and it is the 4th in a series by Irish author Tana French.  I highly recommend all 4, but start with In The Woods.  Oh, and I also loved Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn!

    9.  Everyone should have baby powder in their beach bag – just pour some of it on sandy spots and wipe off and it removes sand completely.  Genius.

    10.  A good hat is also a must-have for me and my son.  We both have these straw fedoras, which keep our fine-hair heads sunburn free, and look cute when our hair doesn’t.  I bought mine at a little stand at the Grove in LA, and Charlie’s is from Children’s Place.

Do you have beach essentials that I left off my list?  Put them in the comments and we can get a running list going for all those planning honeymooners!

Thanks for the book recommendations! I just bought Gone Girl (and her other books) for my mom for Christmas since I heard they’re making all of them into movies soon (yay!). I’ll check out that other series. Also, love the turkish towels and will likely buy a few before our trip to Kona next month. When I lived in Spain, we’d buy similar ones (more on the sarong side) to travel light while walking through the city. thanks for the great list!

P.S. I’m balm-obsessed as well and my favorite is the lip slip by sara happ (now in a tube and tub!). also, as a mom, you might like the Calendula & Comfrey healing balm by Tilvee…I keep it on me at all times because it’s perfect for rashes, dry skin, sunburn, lips, cuticles…and it’s gluten free and has 79% organic ingredients.

    • Three things: 1. You've got one day left to enter my @mywildbird sling giveaway, so head over to my blog (link in profile) and tag your friends. 2. I was featured on @loyal_hana blog as part of their motherhood series, so if you want to give it a read and hear about my typical (hot mess) day or how I (don't) balance work and mothering head to their profile to find the link to their site. I pretty much live in their nursing-friendly clothes and was honored to be featured. 3. Charlie took this picture (and basically directed me for the shot) and it makes me really really happy Putting the finishing touches on the boys' bedroom and had to stop to admire the magic that the morning light and their @babyjives mobile was making. ✨☁️⭐️❤️✨#charlieandcalsroomredo
Can a person be your happy place? Because I'm pretty certain that Quincy is mine ☺️✨ #quincyrhys #thatdimpletho This week was a rough one. I feel like I say that every week but this one really was. Today alone had me at my breaking point. All three of my kids seemed hell bent on driving me crazy. Quincy literally wouldn't let me put him down or leave the room without a major scream-cry fest. He rode around on the fuss bus allllll day. Tropical storm Calvin left destruction in his wake everywhere he went (if you follow me on snap/stories you got a little sampling but that was nowhere near the extent of it). At one point I went into a room away from my kids and sat in a chair and cried. Within three minutes one of them found me (of course) gave me a hug, and we were all better (except Calvin -- I think this is his permanent state ). This photo is my version of thinking happy thoughts. Bougainvillea vibes ✌️️✨
