• {Inspired By} Lady Mary’s Bridal Style from Downton Abbey

Who knew that a show about a British aristocratic household in the early 1900’s on PBS could be so addicting?  If you’re not watching Downton Abbey, you may be the only one.  This season premiered with a long-awaited wedding, so you know I was inspired.

I thought Lady Mary’s bridal style would translate today into a simple modern look, with a sleek and simple boat neck gown, a pretty laurel headband, and a Calla lily bouquet, of course.

The J.Crew gown is simple, but the back is a bit more daring, to add a little drama to your look.  The gold laurel wreath headband is a modern take on Lady Mary’s own.  The calla lily bouquet should be small and simple.  Add a cathedral length veil (in my opinion, it should always be a birdcage veil or a cathedral veil and nothing in between) and you’re the modern Lady Mary.

So tell me, are you a Downton Abbey addict as well?  Do you love Lady Mary’s bridal style, or do you think it should stay in the 1900’s?  I personally think it would be gorgeous on the right bride with a simple and modern style.

Hello. We at Lucky Sixpence (vintage tiaras, bands, cobs and jewellery) love lady Mary’s bridal look. We thought one of our bands were rather like Lady Mary’s…and even better it is made with vintage original prices. Getting our morning exercise in at @lacma. Calvin loves to walk the lights. If you missed my post on the blog about it last week, Urban Light is a great place to take your little walkers -- it's clean and empty before #lacma opens. LACMA is probably my favorite spot in the city to take littles of all ages -- lots to do and very well maintained (which is important when you have a kid that likes to pick up and put everything in his mouth). Head to my blog and search LACMA to see more. #OLDsfaveplacesinLA // outfit note: both the romper (summer) and cardi (fall) are from @juneandjanuary and I just got my order from the fall line and everything is darling. I love the soft material, the heathered styles for fall/winter, and the side snap tees, hooded rompers, and October hats are I just wish I would have ordered more of the pants for Calvin and baby 3. Staple pieces that can be layered and worn for a long time. #whatcalvinwears #juneandjanuary #freshlypicked #calvins2ndyear
Since I couldn't attend #nybridalweek in person this season, I'll be sharing and regraming some of my favorite looks throughout the week. Love the style of this veil and big bouquet paired with a sweetheart neckline and a bare neck from the @annebargebride show.
