wedding dresses by monique lhullier spring 2014 collection lace gownA couple of weeks ago I traveled to NYC for Spring Bridal Market (think fashion week for bridal) to get a glimpse of some of the best wedding gowns and wedding dress trends from my favorite wedding gown designers. Today I’m sharing a bit from the bridal collections by Vera Wang, Reem Acra, & Monique Lhuillier. First up, Reem Acra.

I wasn’t a fan of the use of umbrellas and there were a lot of things going on (embroidery on the headpieces, the veils and headpieces themselves, the umbrellas, floral appliqués, etc.) but I was a big fan of the tulle headpieces and long veils, and if you just took one of those ideas instead of all at once it would be perfect. And the gowns were stunning. Up next, Vera Wang.

While I personally wouldn’t wear a wedding dress with a black leather bodice or trim, I do think they are fabulous. And you can definitely order them in a more traditional style with just white.  Finally, my personal favorite from the week: Monique Lhuillier.

While that silk crepe gown with a cape is my absolute fave (I predicted this as a bridal trend in my Oscar wrap-up post when I picked Gwyneth Paltrow as best dressed in her white Tom Ford gown and cape in 2012 and I’m thrilled to see it come to life!)  it is hard to pick just one favorite. If you like the cape but want a more traditional look, she also did a lace cape and capelet, as well as a wrap.  But what I loved most about this collection is that Monique Lhuillier really thought about every type of bride.  She did these fabulous dresses and coats for an elopement, a shorter party dress for the fun-loving bride, shades of blush, and even an ombré gown.  There was lots of lace, but also more modern looks.  Peplum was included (so on trend) as well as your traditional ballgown and sweetheart necklines.  I really thought she knocked it out of the park and was really impressed.  It was also fun to sit front row at the show, sandwiched between Randy Fenoli and Colin Cowie (both of which were such handsome and lovely gents in person!)

So what do you think of the 2014 Spring Bridal Collections?  Are you loving the capes, the black leather, and the long veils, or are you drawn to the more traditional looks.  Would you be a fashion-forward bride and rock one of the Spring trends?
