Elegant Destination Wedding in Pastel Puerto Rico | 1313 Photography

There are days I still have to pinch myself when I realize that not only do I get to write this wedding blog, like as my job (or one of my jobs, at least) but I have lots of lovely readers like you who wait to read what I post each day and amazing vendors and brides who want their gorgeous weddings featured on my blog. Today’s wedding is so jaw-droppingly fabulous, so stunningly beautiful, that I couldn’t believe my luck. Because it could be on any blog or in any magazine – it’s THAT good. That I get to be the one to share it with you reminds me of how lucky I am, and that the bride shared that she’s a big fan of Oh Lovely Day and reads it several times a week from Norway (where the couple lives) is the icing on the cake for me. So get ready, because I guarantee you that you’re going to want to pin every single image (don’t forget you can use the share button in the upper left corner of each image to share it across social media as well as on Pinterest!).   I apologize in advance for completely distracting you from your day with this loveliness, because you’re about to get lost in it for a while…

    From the bride, Jennifer:

This hot-blooded Colombian-American girl met her Norwegian viking skier, John, in Denver, CO in 2008. He turned my world upside down, and he proposed in the arctic frost of Norway in 2010. The biggest challenge for John and I was deciding on the destination to celebrate our special day with friends and family from across the globe. As we were wedding planning from Norway, we decided to choose a neutral territory where we could combine traditions from our American, Colombian, and Norwegian upbringings. We chose the island of enchantment, Puerto Rico, and more specifically Hotel El Convento, a timeless and traditional restored luxury hotel nestled in the heart  of the charming and mysterious Old San Juan. While planning our wedding we kept our priorities relatively simple. We knew we wanted great music, an all night dance party, and readings from my brother, and John`s sister during the ceremony.  Our ceremony was held in a large courtyard at Centro de Estudios Avanzados next to the Hotel El Convento. The courtyard has beautiful arches, blossoming trees, and the refreshing aura of the Puerto Rican sun and breeze. Following the ceremony we played in the cobblestone streets in Old San Juan while our wonderful photographers from 1313 Photography captured our first moments as husband and wife. A cocktail hour, consisting of abundant and fruity sangria and a Puerto Rican cigar roller, was held `al fresco` for our guests in the elegant Patio Del Nispero of The Hotel El Convento, in  the shadow of the hotel’s famous century-old, nispero fruit tree.  Following cocktail hour, the guests were invited into the ballroom for dinner, speeches, and dancing.  Our fabulous live band played the perfect mix of latino dance music combined with catchy tunes from Europe and the U.S.A. Everyone was on their feet, moving to the music, with the last bite of their dinner. Around 11 pm, we surprised our guests with the arrival of drummers playing `batucada` (a substyle of samba and refers to an African influenced Brazilian percussion style). This began the Colombian tradition of `hora loca.` All the guests were provided props such as masks, silly hats, sunglasses, and whistles, to join the live drummers on the dance floor. The Puerto Rican rum was flowing, the dancing feet of our loved ones were rhythm to our ears, and we cannot imagine a night better spent surrounded by our favorite people from 12 different countries. When the venue closed down, we crossed the centuries-old cobblestone streets to a local dive bar, and continued to the wee hours of the morning accompanied by our closest friends and our new friends from 1313 Photography, for some local beer and laughs.

Doesn’t this look like the most romantic wedding? The groom’s tears, the elegant black-tie attire, the dreamy pastels of San Juan, and the way this couple planned this personal wedding that infused both of their personalities and cultures with that of Puerto Rico so perfectly – I really have no words for how much I love it. You’re also going to want to watch their wedding film. Had me in tears and gave me goosebumps. Be sure to look through the gallery for even more, especially gorgeous glimpses from 1313 of the Puerto Rican setting.

You've had quite a milestone month from 7-8 months. You're scooting (with some speed), crawling, sitting up on your own, and sleeping through the night (with one feeding around 4:30-5) pretty consistently. You totally want to mix it up with your brothers -- sometimes I think you are trying to jump out of my lap to get to them. You and Charlie have the sweetest relationship and you and Cal are best bros. They are both so loving towards you and patient when you pull their hair or grab the toy they have. I wish they were that patient with each other They both watch out for you, retrieve things you drop, laugh when you're doing silly things like shaking your head like crazy, and are always looking for you. You're eating solids three times a day, still love to nurse, still have no teeth, are constantly babbling (dadadada is common), and are amazingly strong. You are 21.5 lbs (75th %) and are 90th % for height. And you still don't like me out of your sight -- all the heart eyes for momma and I love it. You're quite a flirt with everyone though but aren't loving when men get too close or talk to you too much. Except for daddy -- you're a big fan of him. You went from being my hardest baby to my easiest of the three right now. Thanks for the reprieve. Your happiness is infectious and each dimpled smile you give brightens everyone's day. Happy 8 months buddy. Love you times a million. #quincysmonthbymonth I know someday you won't want to hold my hand anymore, but I sure do hope that day is still very far away. Like 10-15 years maybe? #battlefieldmotherhood
