• Pom Pom Mobile Decor DIY

Today’s DIY came about accidentally. I was making pom poms for a baby shower and I also had spray painted some driftwood gold for another project, and suddenly a light bulb went off. Isn’t that how the best creative projects happen? I love the pom mobile for a nursery, but it’s also cool enough to hang anywhere in your home.

    What you’ll need:

First, make your pom poms. Here is a step-by-step tutorial for making the pom poms using a pom maker.

    1. Wrap yarn around one side of the pom maker like in the photo in the first photo. Once you have it covered in yarn as shown wrap the other side the same way.

    2. Close the pom maker and cut a piece of yarn about 6 inches long to wrap around the pom.

    3. Cut the yarn (see photo 3) along the length of the pom maker.

    4. Tie the 6 inch piece of yarn tightly around the center of the pom maker, where you just cut the yarn (see photo 5).

    5. Pull the pieces of the pom maker apart, leaving you with one completed pom pom.

Make enough poms as you want for your mobile. You can make varying sizes by using different size pom makers. You can even make multi-color poms by wrapping different colors of yarn on one pom maker at a time.

Next you need to spray paint your driftwood. Once you’ve done that and it has dried, you can tie the poms on your mobile.

Finally, once your poms are in place, tie your cord around each end of the driftwood and hang it!

I love the idea of lots of these in different sizes for a wedding installation too. It would make a great ceremony or photobooth backdrop! Or make some for a baby shower and then baby can use one for his or her mobile. Such a sweet touch.

    • First I wanted to say a big thank you to @littlehipsqueaks for letting me take over their IG feed yesterday and asking me to be a part of their #LHSadventures series (head to their profile if you missed it!). I'm a big fan of all things LHS and wish Charlie could still wear it (although his beanie still fits!). Secondly, I'm having a huge giveaway on my blog and one of the prizes is the brand new 2015 @uppababy vista stroller (we have an older version which is pictured but are using it with an infant carrier - now that Calvin doesn't fall asleep in the stroller I'm about to switch over to the regular seat that comes with the Vista). There are also a bunch of other amazing prizes. So go enter (link in my profile). And lastly, thanks so much for all of the great suggestions to my last post. You are a great supportive community of knowledgable mommas and I appreciate it. High fives all around
The last 5 out of 7 mornings have started with a giant pee diaper explosion and tiny absorbant gel balls everywhere (today they made it past the diaper, pjs, and sleep sack). When you're trying to get the baby nursed and the preschooler ready for school, and you have to add a bath in the mix it's really not cool. Plus, so gross guys! I'm throwing a major stink-eye @pampers way right now and am researching a switch to cloth diapering. But look how happy Calvin is to get an unexpected bath treat - even if he is hungry. #calvinlovesthebath and I still love our @pujbaby tub, especially when we just need to do a quick bath like this morning. It's nice that one great product can help salvage a morning made hard because of one bad product.| UPDATE: I've tried going up a size - still happens and only makes even more gel mess b/c the diapers are bigger - and Honest diapers are great for us during the day but don't work for us overnight - they gave Calvin really bad diaper rash in the past. Haven't yet tried Huggies, 7th Gen or cloth. Thanks for the suggestions though! I should have mentioned that originally because I should have known all of you awesome mommas would have had lots of great suggestions. Pampers swaddlers always worked great when Charlie was a baby (though this happened occasionally) and based on all of your comments it sounds like there's a diaper that works for every baby!
