    Charlie's 3rd birthday | Oh Lovely Day

My apologies for the lack of post today (on a Monday too, for shame!) but sometimes momma duty takes priority. Today is my little guy’s third birthday, and yesterday was his party – the combination of prepping a party as well as baking cupcakes for his preschool class was all I could handle this weekend. I’ll be sharing some fun ideas from Charlie’s party in the coming weeks – it was a combination of laid-back (at Griffith Park) and toddler-friendly (bouncy house!!) with some fun creative details. We had a blast.

Something I like to do every year for Charlie’s birthday is to create a slideshow for him of his past year. It lets me reminisce on the year and have a little momma moment on his birthday (I’ve cried like 10 times today!) and gives him something to watch for fun now and save for later. So I thought I’d share it too.

    • On weekends, we nurse, cuddle, and nap together and it is my favorite. With the other boys I was always trying to get stuff done while they were napping. Since this is my last baby, I'm trying to really soak up all the moments I can -- one day I'll have plenty of time to get stuff done. For now I'll just be a hot mess that made the most of this baby time. Whenever I get a bit anxious about not getting things done, I re-read my favorite poem about motherhood: Mother, oh mother, come shake out your cloth! Empty the dustpan, poison the moth, Hang out the washing and butter the bread, Sew on a button and make up a bed. Where is the mother whose house is so shocking? She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking! Oh, I've grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue (Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby, loo). Dishes are waiting and bills are past due (Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo). The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo. Look! Aren't her eyes the most wonderful hue? (Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo.) Oh, cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow, But children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow. So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust, go to sleep. I'm rocking my baby. Babies don't keep. Song for a Fifth Child By Ruth Hulburt Hamilton #battlefieldmotherhood #mommaandquincyselfies Saturday mornings are about bros, basketball and babywearing. Side note: loving the ring sling for babywearing in this heatwave. It's the least hot of all of my babywearing options. #mywildbird #babywearing #quincyrhys #OLDsfavefinds
This is the sky over LA right now. Apocalyptic, filter free and full of smoke Stay safe and indoors #sandfire #losangeles Picking up Charlie just got a whole lot easier for me (and a whole lot pokey-er for Quincy ) thanks to our new @uppababy G-Link #thefredrickboys
