Handmade Ombré Wedding | Amy Carroll Photography & Heyday Event Lab on Oh Lovely Day

Hold on to your balloons, because today’s handmade ombré wedding is legen (wait for it….) DARY. Sparkle + gold – check. Ombré + color – check. Gorgeous handmade details – check. Sweet moments and traditions – double check! You better get your pinning finger warmed up because this one is so full of inspiration, you’re going to want to save every photo. What I really love is that while this bride had a lot of DIY and handmade decor, that doesn’t mean she didn’t hire amazing vendors and have a fantastic planner to help her pull everything together. Just because a bride likes DIY doesn’t mean she wants to DIY everything (I hate when blogs make DIY seem like an all or nothing thing. You can do whatever you want!) This wedding shows you that DIY and handmade weddings + fabulous vendors can work together perfectly.

The inspiration for our wedding day was a blend of our personalities and Northern Michigan. We have spent many long weekends exploring Northern Michigan together. Jeremy and I wanted our guests to have a fun relaxing weekend in our favorite part of the country, Crystal Mountain.

My advice to couples planning now is to hire a planner. A lot of planners will create a package for you based on your needs. Not only was our planner worth every penny but, she saved us a ton of money. She helped us to put together an AMAZING vendor team. They helped each other when needed and were equally invested in making our day unforgettable.

Every detail of our wedding was handmade or handpicked with love by Jeremy and I. Our goal was to create a laid back and fun weekend for our closest family and friends that reflected us as a couple. Looking back at our amazing photos I know we achieved this and more.

My favorite moment of the day, was during the reception when Jeremy and I took a moment to look around and take everything in. From the decor to the music to the food, all of our hard work came together perfectly. During this moment, we realized that all of our family and friends, the people we love, were there specifically to celebrate our marriage.  Throughout the entire weekend, we felt so special and loved but it was in this moment we looked at each other and both knew that we had pulled off our picture perfect wedding.

Here’s more on all of that fab DIY from the bride, Alex:

Our wedding was full of DIY projects. I spent a full year crafting for the wedding. I was really lucky to have friends and family that wanted to help with the projects. I created all of our print materials, including our invitations with the help of a very talented calligrapher, Nellie Barker at Whoa Nellie Press.

With the help of our awesome friends I hand painted directional signage to help our guests find their way around the resort. For the ceremony, we made a long tissue paper garland to hang across the bridge that everyone walked across to get to the ceremony site. Our program was hand drawn on a large chalkboard. In the trees we strung the letters to create the words, “I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine” in English and Hebrew out of paper letters.

For the cocktail and reception area I created a ribbon backdrop for the place cards to hang from. I spent numerous weekends dragging Jeremy to different vintage shops to find items to accessorize the vintage dresser that we placed in front of the ribbons. Our sign in book was a calendar that included our engagement pictures. Our guests left us messages on their birthdays.

Since we choose to have our reception in the ski lodge we knew that the decor would be key. The biggest focal points of the reception were the feature wall and dessert table which were both done with a mixture of purchased and handmade paper goods. We hand created the centerpieces from wine bottles, jars, and random glass containers. We also cut hundreds of circles in different shades of purple to create ombré table runners. The very talented, Jamie from Heyday, handled all of our flower arrangements, including our amazing bouquets. One of my favorite projects was the gold pinatas that hung from the ceiling over the dance floor. They were built out of cardboard and strips of gold mylar.

Congrats to Alex & Jeremy on having yourselves a truly spectacular wedding day, and on your marriage! Don’t you just LOVE this wedding?
