Canadian Cornfield Wedding | Mikaela Ruth Photography

Today’s wedding is every farm girl’s dream (and many city girls’ dreams too!). The bride grew up on the farm where she got married, she and her fiancé and their families completely renovated the barn to get it wedding-ready, and she even had her photo taken with her favorite cow. If this wedding isn’t totally and completely this couple, I don’t know what is.

The inspiration for our wedding began long before the engagement. Having grown up on a dairy farm, I knew I wanted to incorporate those roots (hence the photos we had taken with our favourite cow). What better way to honor those roots than to have our ceremony on my parents’ farm, in their 1920’s hip roof barn, where my sisters and I spent so much time playing as we grew up.

Advice for couples planning now? Follow YOUR dreams and give yourself the time to make them happen! My parents tried to convince us for months there was no way we could clean “that old thing out” (the barn),  repaint the outside, refinish the floor (that had many holes), build a big staircase up to it, etc. I guess having a fiancé in carpentry was handy! But, looking back, it was SO worth every hour we spent because, my dream came true!!

I knew exactly what I wanted for my special day and in order to do that I did a lot of it myself with the help of friends and family. Everything from the seating chart, the table runners, head table stage, back drop with the old windows which I hunted down myself, and the bar was made by a friend. Chad and I did so much ourselves because we wanted people to see our personalities come through!

How did you make your wedding YOU?

From the barn, to the cornfield reception, the cowboy boots, to the hay wagon ride…I think anyone who knows me would say my wedding was the definition of me!

I love seeing how much this couple was able to accomplish to make their dream wedding come true! And how special to get married on the farm where you grew up? Congrats to Angela & Chad!

    • These ranunculus are still going strong and the yellow is just so beautiful. One of my favorite flowers for sure How we survive kid birthday parties: Ergo + beer FTW. (Quincy's first time in the Ergo and he loooooved it) #quincyrhys #quincysmilestones
After a few nights with frequent wake ups after his first long stretch of sleep, I decided to try having Quincy sleep in his bassinet instead of the rock-n-play he has always slept in to help with his reflux. He usually sleeps from 7:30 or 8 pm to 1:30, then eats and goes back to sleep, waking every 1-2 hrs till 7-8 am. Well, last night I put him down in his rock-n-play (since he nurses right before bed and I was worried his reflux would flare if I laid him flat) and when I went to bed 2 hours later I moved him to his bassinet. He didn't wake up and slept until -- wait for it -- 4:15 am! Then he nursed and was back to sleep by 5am and slept till 8! What a huge difference! I got 6 straight hours of sleep and 8 total. It's like a new world today ✨ So night sleep in the @dockatot placed in our @thelandofnod bassinet is our new thang #quincysmilestones #quincyrhys These two Also, after I took this I found a very similar pic of Charlie and Calvin from #theadventuresofcharlieandcalvin archives - except Charlie is a year younger and Quincy is two months younger than Calvin but even chubbier (you can find it under #charliecalvinquincyBFFs if you want to see!) #charlieandquincy
