Canadian Cornfield Wedding | Mikaela Ruth Photography

Today’s wedding is every farm girl’s dream (and many city girls’ dreams too!). The bride grew up on the farm where she got married, she and her fiancé and their families completely renovated the barn to get it wedding-ready, and she even had her photo taken with her favorite cow. If this wedding isn’t totally and completely this couple, I don’t know what is.

The inspiration for our wedding began long before the engagement. Having grown up on a dairy farm, I knew I wanted to incorporate those roots (hence the photos we had taken with our favourite cow). What better way to honor those roots than to have our ceremony on my parents’ farm, in their 1920’s hip roof barn, where my sisters and I spent so much time playing as we grew up.

Advice for couples planning now? Follow YOUR dreams and give yourself the time to make them happen! My parents tried to convince us for months there was no way we could clean “that old thing out” (the barn),  repaint the outside, refinish the floor (that had many holes), build a big staircase up to it, etc. I guess having a fiancé in carpentry was handy! But, looking back, it was SO worth every hour we spent because, my dream came true!!

I knew exactly what I wanted for my special day and in order to do that I did a lot of it myself with the help of friends and family. Everything from the seating chart, the table runners, head table stage, back drop with the old windows which I hunted down myself, and the bar was made by a friend. Chad and I did so much ourselves because we wanted people to see our personalities come through!

How did you make your wedding YOU?

From the barn, to the cornfield reception, the cowboy boots, to the hay wagon ride…I think anyone who knows me would say my wedding was the definition of me!

I love seeing how much this couple was able to accomplish to make their dream wedding come true! And how special to get married on the farm where you grew up? Congrats to Angela & Chad!

When your shades and your shirt are meant to be #charlesdashiell On weekends, we nurse, cuddle, and nap together and it is my favorite. With the other boys I was always trying to get stuff done while they were napping. Since this is my last baby, I'm trying to really soak up all the moments I can -- one day I'll have plenty of time to get stuff done. For now I'll just be a hot mess that made the most of this baby time. Whenever I get a bit anxious about not getting things done, I re-read my favorite poem about motherhood: Mother, oh mother, come shake out your cloth! Empty the dustpan, poison the moth, Hang out the washing and butter the bread, Sew on a button and make up a bed. Where is the mother whose house is so shocking? She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking! Oh, I've grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue (Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby, loo). Dishes are waiting and bills are past due (Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo). The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo. Look! Aren't her eyes the most wonderful hue? (Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo.) Oh, cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow, But children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow. So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust, go to sleep. I'm rocking my baby. Babies don't keep. Song for a Fifth Child By Ruth Hulburt Hamilton #battlefieldmotherhood #mommaandquincyselfies
