New seasons mean new skin routines, especially when it comes to summer. Whether you’re prepping for your wedding or just want to keep your skin it’s best, these are my tips for a summer skin refresh to keep it healthy and looking great.
1. Choose the right products.
You need a few key products in your arsenal to keep your skin looking and feeling great: a gentle cleanser, a light moisturizer, good exfoliators, a tinted moisturizer for your face with sunscreen, and a good sunscreen for the rest of your skin. Summer is full of drying things: hotter air, more sun, pool chemicals, salt and sand from the beach. You need to be sure you’re using a good moisturizer regularly. 3. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate.
You can’t have great skin unless you exfoliate the yucky dead skin on top. And failing to exfoliate properly can lead to pimples and acne, keratosis pilaris (that ugly “chicken skin” look), and dry flakey skin. My two favorite ways to exfoliate are my lavender scrub from Trader Joes, and my macro exfoliator. I use the scrub in the shower 3-4 times a week. And I use the macro exfoliator on my face once a week (5 minutes gets rid of millions of dead skin cells – the results are amazing!) Exfoliating leaves my skin glowing, fresh, and healthier looking.
4. Use sunscreen everyday.
This should go without saying, but you have to use sunscreen on your face and body everyday. The Jouer tinted moisturizer I mentioned earlier has a sunscreen in it for your face, and I love this sunscreen for the rest of my body – it works great and doesn’t break me out or leave me smelling and feeling all “sunscreeny.”
