Summer Skin Refresh | Oh Lovely Day

New seasons mean new skin routines, especially when it comes to summer. Whether you’re prepping for  your wedding or just want to keep your skin it’s best, these are my tips for a summer skin refresh to keep it healthy and looking great.

    1. Choose the right products.

You need a few key products in your arsenal to keep your skin looking and feeling great: a gentle cleanser, a light moisturizer, good exfoliators, a tinted moisturizer for your face with sunscreen, and a good sunscreen for the rest of your skin. Cetaphil’s Gentle Skin Cleanser is a great first step. It is as gentle as it gets and soothes and cleanses, leaving skin smooth and soft. This mild yet effective cleanser is perfect for daily use on face, and even on the body – perfect for dry, sensitive, and sunburned summer skin.

    2. Moisturize.

Summer is full of drying things: hotter air, more sun, pool chemicals, salt and sand from the beach. You need to be sure you’re using a good moisturizer regularly. Cetaphil DailyAdvance Lotion instantly replenishes, hydrates and protects dry, sensitive skin for 24 hours, leaving it soft and smooth. This lotion can be used all over the body, and is gentle enough even to use on the face, making it the perfect summer moisturizer. I love that it isn’t heavy, so it doesn’t leave you feeling greasy during hot summer months, but still moisturizes really well. I also like to use a tinted moisturizer during the day instead of foundation in the summer, and this one from Jouer is my favorite.

    3. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate.

You can’t have great skin unless you exfoliate the yucky dead skin on top. And failing to exfoliate properly can lead to pimples and acne, keratosis pilaris (that ugly “chicken skin” look), and dry flakey skin. My two favorite ways to exfoliate are my lavender scrub from Trader Joes, and my macro exfoliator. I use the scrub in the shower 3-4 times a week. And I use the macro exfoliator on my face once a week (5 minutes gets rid of millions of dead skin cells – the results are amazing!) Exfoliating leaves my skin glowing, fresh, and healthier looking.

    4. Use sunscreen everyday.

This should go without saying, but you have to use sunscreen on your face and body everyday. The Jouer tinted moisturizer I mentioned earlier has a sunscreen in it for your face, and I love this sunscreen for the rest of my body – it works great and doesn’t break me out or leave me smelling and feeling all “sunscreeny.”

Following these four steps will refresh your skin for summer and keep it protected and looking healthy. What are some of your favorite products for a summer skin refresh?

    • Took an evening family walk and the only way I caught up to this one with my slow waddle was when he stopped to chat up the UPS man. Come on baby, we're ready for you.
As long as you aren't re-registering for stuff you got with your first baby, I totally think you can register for second (or subsequent) babies and I'm sharing my own @babylistregistry list (if you haven't heard of them, check it out - you can register for anything from anywhere!) and top picks, with items from @ergobaby @babybrezza @summerinfant @uppababy & more over on Babyli.st's blog: http://blog.babyli.st/second-baby-registry-ideas/
