Old Hollywood Wedding | Heidi Ryder Photography

I’m giddy over today’s Old Hollywood wedding from Heidi Ryder. Old Hollywood glamour, vintage touches, gold polka dots galore – what’s not to love? And my favorite of all is the fashion and style the bride infused into the day. She designed and made her dress and the bridesmaid dresses herself, and I am more beyond obsessed with her dress. And her gold glitter Miu Miu heels. Just too good…

Our inspiration for our wedding day came from our love of antiquing together. We wanted to find a vintage venue that would give a timeless feel, and make us feel at home. When we found the Carondelet House, we knew we had to get married there. We wanted to stay away from themes, but our love of sugar kept bringing us back to the idea of “love is sweet” hence the cookie favors, and yummy cake table.

Our wedding was full of DIYs, the most significant of which was designing and making my own wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses. I spent almost a year designing the wedding dress, picking the fabrics, changing and rechanging my mind about the style, draping the fabric, painstakingly hand beading and appliqueing the lace and fitting it to my body. The bridesmaids dresses came together much more quickly… Within about the last two months before the wedding. I even made a mini bridesmaid dress for my four-month old niece!

Our advice would be to take it slow and enjoy every moment of planning.  Try not to let planning stress you out. You only get to do this once (god willing!) and being engaged is so much fun, you should really take each chance to enjoy it while it lasts. The most important part is that you’ll be married at the end of the day — the rest is just icing on the cake!

Our favorite moment was right at the beginning of the ceremony when our Rabbi told us to take a moment to look around and see all the people who had come out to support us. Seeing all those faces in the same room got us really choked up, and it made us appreciate that moment, and every moment leading up to it, so much more deeply.

Other DIYs include our video guest book which Alex built, the burlap table runners, table name cards and matching cookie jar place cards (the cookies were made by my family and I assembled and hand wrote all the cards), wedding programs which we designed together and printed at home onto paper bags that doubled as candy take-out bags for the dessert bar, and the love is sweet banner hanging from our dessert table.

How did you make your wedding YOU?

I’m a fashion designer and Alex is a concert video producer, so the two most important elements to us where the fashion and the music. Making my own dress as well as the bridesmaids dresses played a huge role in making our wedding feel like us because so much of me went into making those special dresses. I left the music in Alex’s hands and he chose to have both a band and a DJ. The Dustbowl Revival played some of the same bluegrass tunes that brought us together and Red Shoe, our DJ kept us on the dance floor for every song!

I really can’t get over the bride’s dress – such a labor of  love and a fabulous result. I want one for myself – just to wear around the house 🙂 So ridiculously pretty. And you know I’m loving the gold polka dot details, and all of those personal touches. Congrats to Annika & Alex. I officially want to live in your wedding.

    • 7 months old today, but momma won't be taking your 7 month photo today (probably not tomorrow either) because I'm so tired from your sleeping more like a 7 week old than a 7 month old. Did you not get the 3rd baby memo? If you don't give me more sleep soon I'm going to pull a Lindsay Lohan and check myself into a nice facility due to my "exhaustion" (except in my case it really will be exhaustion). Then who will you wake up all night, huh? So can you try and just wake me up once a night? Instead of 3? Deal? DEAL!!!? #seriouslysotired #quincyrhys Mama said there'd be days like this... Just not 200 of them in a row good thing the company's cute. Also, currently loving this playmat from @lollalandusa - it's big and soft and cleans easily. And now we can practice sitting without worrying about head bumps when he falls over #quincyrhys #OLDfavefinds
I can hardly believe Quincy was ever this tiny. And now he's 7 months tomorrow. Since we are out of the infant baby gear/clothing phase, I'm selling it all at a deep discount now at @ohlovelydaysale (including this playmat!) and more this weekend if you are local. See the flyer a few posts back and head to my sale feed. Tag your expecting friends or the mom's of new babes that are in So Cal! #OLDsamplesale Got one little corner of the boys' soon-to-be-shared bedroom done today. Once the bunkbeds arrive I may totally rearrange things but for now I'm loving this @thelandofnod table for reading, doing puzzles, and there is a hidden bin underneath where I have a Lego topper hidden so we can make it a Lego table too. And store those puzzles with all of the little pieces that drive me insane Can't wait to finish and share more of this room (and move Cal in so I can move Quincy into the nursery and maybe get a little more sleep!) You can see the design process and inspiration that I did with the design services team from The Land of Nod on the blog as well (link in profile). #projectsharedboysbedroom #calvins3rdyear
