Big Sur Elopement | Evynn LeValley Photography | Oh Lovely Day

I’ve been on an elopement kick lately, and after today’s dreamy Big Sur elopement I’m sure you can see why. There’s something so utterly romantic about you and your love, exchanging vows and getting married, and having almost no one else around. You can do it completely your way – start your marriage and partnership however you want. It isn’t for everyone, but it definitely gives you something to think about. I’d love to renew my vows this way someday…

From the bride, Mary, on how they met and why they eloped:

Matt and I first met when we were awkward 12 year olds. We dated briefly in the 8th grade, but due to a mutual shyness and lack of any sort of communication skills we gradually drifted apart. Many years later we met again when I was visiting New York for an artist retreat. We fell in love quickly, and after a few visits back and forth between New York and Vancouver, B.C. I was soon packing my bags and moving to the U.S to be with him. A few months later Matt surprised me by getting down on one knee while we were walking across the Williamsburg bridge. He had my favorite Stevie Nicks songs playing and a back up audience of some of our closest friends. I didn’t have any hesitation saying yes. In September of this year we made another big decision to move across the country to San Francisco. We wanted to commemorate this big leap forward and our commitment to each other, so we decided to elope shortly after. We drove down to Big Sur on a sunny weekend in October, found a location and got married the following evening. The setting was beyond beautiful and was the perfect place to start this new adventure together. Eloping allowed us to focus our attention entirely on one another and also helped with exchanging our handwritten vows with as much honesty one can muster. After we read our vows we went for a quick celebratory dip in the freezing cold ocean and drank champagne on a private beach until the sun set on us. I wouldn’t change a thing about it. I’ve never been able to picture myself walking down an aisle and having a million eyes on me. Instead, I got to walk barefoot down a rocky path toward the gaze of the man I love. It was incredibly romantic.

    Congrats to Mary & Matt!

When your shades and your shirt are meant to be #charlesdashiell On weekends, we nurse, cuddle, and nap together and it is my favorite. With the other boys I was always trying to get stuff done while they were napping. Since this is my last baby, I'm trying to really soak up all the moments I can -- one day I'll have plenty of time to get stuff done. For now I'll just be a hot mess that made the most of this baby time. Whenever I get a bit anxious about not getting things done, I re-read my favorite poem about motherhood: Mother, oh mother, come shake out your cloth! Empty the dustpan, poison the moth, Hang out the washing and butter the bread, Sew on a button and make up a bed. Where is the mother whose house is so shocking? She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking! Oh, I've grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue (Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby, loo). Dishes are waiting and bills are past due (Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo). The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo. Look! Aren't her eyes the most wonderful hue? (Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo.) Oh, cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow, But children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow. So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust, go to sleep. I'm rocking my baby. Babies don't keep. Song for a Fifth Child By Ruth Hulburt Hamilton #battlefieldmotherhood #mommaandquincyselfies
