Oh Lovely Day's Favorite Places in LA: Milk Jar Cookies

I’ve been wanting to start a new series here on the blog where I share my family’s favorite places in Los Angeles. I’ve been using #OLDsfaveplacesinLA on instagram to share glimpses of our favorite spots, but today I want to officially start with a tour of our favorite neighborhood spot: Milk Jar Cookies. It’s just the cutest place and has THE BEST cookies ever.

We’ve been going to Milk Jar Cookies since they opened in the spring of 2013. It started as a way to bribe Charlie to go to his swim class but Milk Jar has become a place where my family celebrates lots of other little victories, or brightens up a rough day. And since it is walking distance from our home, we visit once a week.

I have to honestly say, theirs are the best cookies I’ve ever had. They are big (the size of 3 cookies at most other bakeries). And they are soft and delicious — I don’t know how you can bake a cookie that big to be completely cooked through and still be soft. It’s cookie magic. Our favorite cookies are: chocolate chip (mine), chocolate peanut butter (my husband), and Charlie switches between those two, oatmeal raisin, and the “sprinkle cookie.” And at Christmas time the candy cane cookie is my absolute fave.

You can visit Milk Jar Cookies at 5466 Wilshire Boulevard, in the Miracle Mile. They are closed on Mondays. You’ll find us there most Friday afternoons.

On weekends, we nurse, cuddle, and nap together and it is my favorite. With the other boys I was always trying to get stuff done while they were napping. Since this is my last baby, I'm trying to really soak up all the moments I can -- one day I'll have plenty of time to get stuff done. For now I'll just be a hot mess that made the most of this baby time. Whenever I get a bit anxious about not getting things done, I re-read my favorite poem about motherhood: Mother, oh mother, come shake out your cloth! Empty the dustpan, poison the moth, Hang out the washing and butter the bread, Sew on a button and make up a bed. Where is the mother whose house is so shocking? She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking! Oh, I've grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue (Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby, loo). Dishes are waiting and bills are past due (Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo). The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo. Look! Aren't her eyes the most wonderful hue? (Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo.) Oh, cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow, But children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow. So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust, go to sleep. I'm rocking my baby. Babies don't keep. Song for a Fifth Child By Ruth Hulburt Hamilton #battlefieldmotherhood #mommaandquincyselfies Saturday mornings are about bros, basketball and babywearing. Side note: loving the ring sling for babywearing in this heatwave. It's the least hot of all of my babywearing options. #mywildbird #babywearing #quincyrhys #OLDsfavefinds
