• Family Fall Traditions + Wildbird Sling Giveaway

adorable baby in a pumpkin patch fall photo

Like most other mothers since the invention of motherhood, I love family traditions. Since fall is my favorite season (even with the barely there fall we get here in Los Angeles), fall also holds some of my favorite family traditions. Making pumpkin bread, coming up with unique Halloween costume ideas, taking the same photo at our local farmer’s market (you know, those put-your-face-through-the-hole board kinds), and of course, visiting the pumpkin patch. Since our fall here is minimal and I’m originally from Ohio where fall is just the most beautiful season, I like driving an hour outside of the city to Underwood Family Farms to get more of a fall experience than the city pumpkin patch in a converted parking lot (we do those too, by the way). Last year I was pregnant with Quincy so it was fun to take him with us this year to explore the pumpkins and corn maze with his brothers.

This was the best photo of all five of us we could get. When a stranger offers to take your photo, you say yes. It’s probably not going to be a great photo, but it will be a great capture of your whole family as you are at that time and season of your family. This is us ๐Ÿ™‚

One thing that has been absolutely essential to me as a mom of three has been my Wildbird sling, because it enables me to participate in activities with the rest of my family while I’m caring for and nursing the baby. Instead of finding a place to nurse or get the baby a nap and missing out on the corn maze or playing in the pumpkin patch, I just wear Quincy in the sling. Nursing him while wearing him in it is super easy (I’m nursing him in the photo above and you can’t even tell!) and then he usually falls asleep and takes a nap while I hang with the rest of my crew.

Since the sling has been such a lifesaver for me this third time around, and Wildbird just launched a bunch of gorgeous colors for fall, I’ve teamed up with them to give one away. All the details and the entry form is below. Good luck!

Love wildbird! And what a sweet giveaway!

Some of our favorite fall traditions are based around Halloween. We love decorating the house, making our own costumes, and carving pumpkins! Now that we have our first little one I’m sure more traditions will develop – we just recently took him to his first pumpkin patch!!

We don’t honestly have any every year traditions yet as a new family. My husband and I got married two years ago. Our oldest daughter is 15 months and our second daughter is two weeks old. The tradition we started last year (that we hope sticks) is to order the girls pajamas from a small business (this year it was Little East Threads), carve pumpkins, watch Charlie Brown as a family (which I did growing up), and roast pumpkin seeds. โค๏ธ

I’m a long time follower and this is the first year we will begin our “family fall tradition”. Our son is 2 and a half and will be trick or treating for the first time with his 9-month old sister this Halloween. They are going as Luke and Leia (Star Wars) and we are also going to take them to the pumpkin patch this year. I’m very excited. The posts I enjoy most are just hearing what works for you and what worked with each of your kids. My oldest loved my moby wrap and Solly wrap but my daughter only likes my sling. I could definitely use a back-up.

I love fall! The weather cools, yet there are still the occasional warm days, the leaves change color, Halloween and pumpkin picking has to be my favorite fall tradition or maybe jumping in crunchy leaves! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Countdown to Halloween is on! Reminiscing about that time Charlie was @macklemore for Halloween, 2013. Kid was two weeks shy of three and played the part to a tee. What is your favorite costume you or your kids ever did? #isthatyourgrandmascoat #poppintags #charlieasmacklemore #babymacklemore #bornentertainer #charlesdashiell We have this hat, passed down to Charlie from my friend's little boy, then passed down to Calvin. It's just a simple grey hat but it is so so cute and is the thing that my boys wear the most in the toddler years. It holds so much sentimental value for me. Well yesterday I took the babies on a walk and somewhere along the way Calvin chucked it. He also tossed his shoes but I saw those right away. It wasn't until we stopped for lunch that I realized the hat was gone. I was so sad about it that I retraced our steps to see if I could find it. No luck. I'm pretty sure he tossed it in Goodwill while I was digging for stuff for our Halloween costumes. Which means it is gone, because when you lose something in Goodwill it is seriously like looking for a needle in a haystack. I've been sick about it ever since, which I know is silly. It's just a hat, after all. But it's one of those things that I was planning to pass to Quincy and then save forever and when I was old and grey I would dig it out of the attic and take a walk down memory lane. You moms know what I'm talking about. But it's gone and all I have are photos and the memories. Luckily Calvin had started putting it on Quincy's head and last week I snapped this picture. Charlie and Calvin both kept saying "cuuuuuuute" โค๏ธ I hope it makes its way onto another little boy's head someday #thefredrickboys #calvinandquincy #brudders #thebrotherhoodofthegreytoddlerhat
Motherhood is a constantly evolving state of total joy, exhausted agony, superhuman strength, and very human failures. As soon as you celebrate that superhuman successful day, it is replaced with new challenges. And just when you think you can't go one more day, you get a day so magical you want to have ten more babies. I'm in the midst of one of those exhausted phases again but I keep trying to remind myself that it is this phase that makes the magical days shine brighter. In the wise words of Miley Cyrus (I'm actually serious): it's all about the climb. We've got this mamas. (Tag a momma who needs to get cheesy and read the words to a Miley Cyrus song ) #battlefieldmotherhood _______________________________________________ I can almost see it. That dream I'm dreaming, But there's a voice inside my head saying, "You'll never reach it." Every step I'm takin' Every move I make feels lost with no direction, My faith is shakin' But I, I gotta keep tryin' Gotta keep my head held high There's always gonna be another mountain I'm always gonna wanna make it move Always gonna be an uphill battle Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose Ain't about how fast I get there Ain't about what's waitin' on the other side It's the climb The struggles I'm facing The chances I'm taking Sometimes might knock me down, But no, I'm not breaking I may not know it, But these are the moments That I'm gonna remember most Just gotta keep goin', And I, I gotta be strong Just keep pushing on, 'Cause... There's always gonna be another mountain I'm always gonna wanna make it move Always gonna be an uphill battle Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose Ain't about how fast I get there Ain't about what's waitin' on the other side It's the climb. 39 weeks today and you've now been growing outside of my body as long as you were growing inside. And growing, and growing, and growing... โ˜บ๏ธโค๏ธ #quincysweekbyweek #39weeks
