Ever since I had little ones I’ve been really concerned about bringing dirt and allergens into our home. My oldest has a dust mite allergy so I try to keep things clean and eliminate as much dust as I can. And anyone who has a toddler and/or a baby knows how important it is to keep your floors clean. Between the crawling and the putting all of the things in their mouths, my boys would be eating dust bunnies off my floor if I let them. And since I know most moms (and some dads) out there have the same struggle, I thought I would share how I keep our home — especially the floors and surfaces — baby and toddler-friendly.
But having three little kids at home means I need simple and efficient solutions that don’t take a lot of effort or time. And I don’t like to use harsh chemicals or strong smells in my products. So I use a combination of effective cleaning products and natural preventative measures to keep things as kiddo-friendly as possible. I also need something that does a good job quickly and easily, since I’m usually squeezing in a cleaning session during nap time and would also like to have time to do something for myself. You know, like shower or eat lunch!
Whenever I start to see dust bunnies on the floor or dirt near the entryway I reach for my Bona PowerPlus cleaning products. I’ve been a big fan of using Bona since we moved into our current home because we have original hardwood floors. I love using the Microfiber Deep Clean Pad to dust surfaces like wood furniture, shelves and the mantle because it traps dirt away and is machine washable. And I use the Bona PowerPlus Hardwood Floor Deep Cleaner with the Deep Clean Pad on our mop to clean our hardwood floors. The formula is oxygenated so it penetrates the wood for a deep, powerful clean. And with three little boys and one husband, you know I need something that really cleans up the dirt they drag in.
In the boys’ bedroom I use a combination of an air purifier and an essential oils blend to help eliminate allergens. This Germ Guardian works for dust, allergens, and germs and I have noticed a big difference in frequency of coughs and colds since using it. I also diffuse a blend of lemon, lavender, and peppermint essential oils with a diffuser like this to help battle environmental allergens. Plus, they make everything smell good 🙂
So those are the tricks I use to keep our place clean and fresh — so they can play and I can stop worrying about how much dirt they are collecting (or eating). Plus, it makes me feel like I’m not the only girl stuck living in a frat house full of boys.
