Virginia DIY Winery Wedding: Jess & Dave

Winery wedding by TALLsmall Photo Today’s wedding from TALL+small Photography is so classically lovely, so elegant, and has such a personal, down-home feel.  I love the setting: a bit of winery, a bit of farmland, with the breathtaking beauty of the Virginia hills surrounding.  Also, the kitty photo bomb is pretty great!

Advice for planning couples? Don’t sweat the small stuff.  Have the top three things on your list and be willing to skimp out on all the rest.  Most of your guests are going to remember the emotions and joyfulness of the day – not all the little details.  But if you want all the little details, find creative DIY ways to make them unique to you and your husband-to-be.  AND, be open to delegating…you will have plenty of people that are able and willing to assist you so you’re not stressing out the months leading up to the big day.

I love the two views of the bride walking down the aisle – one of the bride and one of the groom.  This is why a second shooter is so important, although it can certainly be done with just one photographer (but two gives you a better shot at two perspectives).

DIY projects included: wooden floral centerpiece boxes, which were built, stained, and distressed by Dave’s parents from scratch.  Paper dot garland:  We bought packets of cardstock from an online Scrapbook company.  Then we used a  1.5” hole puncher to punch the dots, bought peach colored thread, and my mom sewed the dots together to make over 50 feet of garland using her 20+ year old sewing machine.  We used this to decorate the mantel in the reception room, the gift table, the favor table, and the backdrop for the photo booth.  Table Numbers:  We used the IKEA TOLSBY frames, printed table numbers (each had a special meaning) and description of meaning on card stock.  We then decorated the card stock with strips of navy blue Washi Tape with polka dots – a simple and quick way to spruce them up.  I also used the Washi tape on various framed signs throughout the wedding and on the wedding favor boxes.

Winery wedding by TALLsmall Photo Winery wedding by TALLsmall Photo Winery wedding by TALLsmall Photo Winery wedding by TALLsmall Photo What made our wedding US?  Our wedding was comfortable but elegant, sweet, emotional and filled with love, laughter, and dancing (lots and lots of dancing!)

Don’t you love this classic wedding?  Also, the bride shared her cocktail hour playlist, which I thought was pretty original and fantastic, so I’m including all of their musical choices below to give you some fresh ideas.  I especially love their first dance song choice: “Green Eyes” by Coldplay (one of my personal favorites).

The confetti garland DIY is also pretty great, and if you don’t have sewing skills like this bride’s mother, you can do a similar confetti garland using this DIY.

Cocktail hour playlist:  Not Enough – J Mascis / Love Lust – King Charles / Flowers in Your Hair – The Lumineers / Bricks or Coconuts – Jacuzzi Boys / Ho Hey – The Lumineers / Home – Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros / Distraction – The Avett Brothers / Separate by Trampled – Turtles / Jon and Roy -Little Bit Of Love by Jon And Roy / Write It All Down For You by Elliott Brood / Go To Sleep – The Avett Brothers / My Only Offer – Mates of State / Oh Christine – The Cave Singers / Kids (MGMT) – Dr. Fox’s Old Timey String Band / Wires – Coconut Records / Wagon Wheel – Old Crow Medicine Show / That’s Some Dream – Good Old War / Mykonos – Fleet Foxes / The Fall – The Avett Brothers / That’s The Way That It Was – Pierre de Reeder / Northwestern Girls – Say Hi / Devils in Boston – Samantha Crain & the Midnight Shivers / Pretty Girl From San Diego – The Avett Brothers / Lost In My Mind – The Head and The Heart / 1234 – Feist / Keep In Touch – Jaakko & Jay / Girl U Want – Freelance Whales / Blood – The Middle East / Little Talks – Of Monsters and Men / Sparrow And The Wolf – James Vincent McMorrow

{Real Wedding} Briana & Joel: Classic Chapel Wedding in Tennessee by Bamber Photography

classic Southern chapel wedding by Bamber Photography
I love a good ‘ole classic Southern wedding, don’t you?  And there is so much fun energy in these photos, I just had to share them with you.  Everyone should be this happy on their wedding day!

Advice for couples planning now?  Enjoy it. Don’t stress over the little things. Its just one day. The main goal is to marry your best friend.

classic Southern chapel wedding by Bamber Photography
Our venue, Patten Chapel at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, was the perfect place for us to get married. It was very important for us to be married in a church and Patten Chapel was just the most beautiful, intimate venue.

classic Southern chapel wedding by Bamber Photography
Almost everything was DIY by us and our family.  We designed our own invites, and my mom hand-drew them (she also drew our guestbook thumbprint tree!)  My mom, grandmother, and two aunts did all of my florals with me.  And my grandmother made all of the bow ties by hand: my groom’s was made from pieces of my dress.  We are just SO blessed to have so much personal involvement by our family.
classic Southern chapel wedding by Bamber Photography
I loved every single detail about our wedding. I put a lot of thought in how I wanted our wedding to look and how I wanted to represent myself and Joel.  I love classic, vintage things and I am a very sentimental person, so I loved having my family involved in every detail; that just made everything so much more special.

Doesn’t this just seem like the happiest day?  I love how much the family helped create this wedding day for Briana and Joel and how much was DIY without seeming like it was DIY: DIY done right and done well!  Aren’t those bow ties fabulous!?  What is your favorite detail?

{Real Wedding} Tara & Jason: Pretty Blue Southern DIY Wedding

blue southern DIY wedding by LH Photography

I just love a good Southern wedding, don’t you?  Spanish moss, sweet tea, Southern charm…what’s not to love?  Between the soft blue color palette and the absolutely fab DIY glass chandelier that hung over the ceremony, this wedding fits the bill.

blue southern DIY wedding by LH Photography
Advice to couples planning now?  I would say to start early and do tons of research. I think if you do your homework you can be creative and original without breaking the bank. It’s also so important to find the right vendors and that doesn’t happen overnight. I feel like our wedding day was so much fun and stress free because I had put so much time into the planning and I knew I could trust my vendors 100% to carry out my vision.

The one detail that was probably the most memorable was the glass globe candle chandelier at the ceremony. A friend with a metal workshop whipped up a stainless steel frame for me and I tied individual glass hanging globes with tea lights to the frame.  We hung the chandelier from rope on a tree branch that hung right over Jason and I at the ceremony. I thought it looked great as the sun was setting.

I would have to say that the attention to detail was my personal mark on the wedding day. I really tried to make everything individual to us from the custom designed programs and menus to the 5 different flavored cakes on antique stands and the DIY glass globe chandelier at the ceremony. I wanted there to be something beautiful and original everywhere you looked, I hope that came across to our guests.

I die over that chandelier!  And the shades of blue and gorgeous florals are pretty fantastic too.  Oh, and take note on that ceremony decor of candles lining the aisle.  A super budget friendly idea and just as beautiful as florals.  Maybe even more beautiful…  What do you think?

{Real Wedding} Natalie & Alex: Coral Summer Wedding With Seersucker + Peonies

I know summer is coming to an end soon, but it still feels like summer where I am, how about you?  So if we have to keep sweating it out in summer heat, we’re also going to enjoy some of what’s great about summer: seersucker & peonies!  This wedding has both, plus the most adorable little flower girl (and daughter of the bride) ever.  She is SO cute, I can’t help but feature tons of photos of her :) summer wedding with seersucker and peonies | photos by amanda perry

How did you make your wedding YOU?
We wanted a classy yet simple wedding that we could just enjoy with those that we love and celebrate with them and have fun. We wanted the wedding to not only be about Alex and me but about Ella too and the family we were creating.

So seriously, HOW ADORABLE is Ella!?  The peonies, coral, seersucker, and the bride’s braided ‘do are pretty fab too.  Hope this gets you through another week of summer!
On a personal note, today is my three year wedding anniversary.  It is hard to believe three years has already gone by since one of the happiest days of my life, and the best party I’ve ever thrown, happened.  While we celebrated with a roadtrip last weekend (highlights coming on Friday) I hope to go through our wedding albums together tonight :)

{Real Wedding} Catherine & Foster: Modernly Classic Yellow + Grey Wedding at Home

The planning of this wedding was a family affair.  The bride lives in a remote town near Yosemite with very little internet access, so aside from a few requests (like the Talking Heads tribute band ‘Same as it Ever Was”) she let her mother plan the entire wedding at her parent’s home.  And if you ask me, her mother should start a wedding business, because she did a fabulous job herself & in hiring the perfect vendors to bring her vision to a reality.  This is one of my favorite weddings I’ve featured, so sit down with a coffee or iced tea and enjoy this swoon-worthy, pin-every-photo wedding, and be inspired!

The bride’s other must-have for her wedding, a cheese wheel cake.  Says the bride:
I don’t care much for cake, but I LOVE cheese!”

My dress was originally a mermaid gown that I purchased and had altered by Ballew Bridal in Collierville, TN. She cut it off right at the flare and pulled the lace from the bottom to created the lacy hemline. Mrs. Ballew was amazing, I never imagined that part of the wedding would so easy. I did not realize that no one makes short wedding dresses either!

The bride and groom love games, and wanted something unique for their guestbook that they wouldn’t mind hauling around when the move.  I’d like to believe that I inspired the jenga guestbook with my jenga guestbook post from two years ago :)

We used a ton of stuff my mom already had: vases, candle holders, chandeliers, etc. We did not rent anything except tables, chairs and table cloths.  We found the runners and napkin in our wedding colors.

And how fun would it be to drink the wine to collect the corks?

Here’s more from the bride on the DIY elements:  I handmade heart shaped birdseed favors because my husband and I love bird watching.  My mom and a friend made pillow cases in yellow and gray to cover some of the outdoor furniture pillows and coordinate with the theme.  I handmade the signs that went with the favors and guesbook using extra invitations I had left over.
SO amazing, right?  Love the color palette (one of my favorites!), and mixed with patterned pillows and graphic elements on the stationery and signs it is absolute perfection.  The florals are fab, the styling is ridiculously gorg, and all of the personal details are just icing, on a cheese wheel cake!  I’d like to give every person and vendor involved with the execution of this lovely wedding a standing ovation.  Join me by leaving a comment of your favorite part of this wedding!
