    {Inspiration Board} Dreaming of Creamsicle

    Today’s inspiration board was designed by Sara of Burnett’s Boards, a site full of inspiration board goodness. This one is no different!

    Finding inspiration for your wedding décor and colors can come from anywhere. Brides-to-be can oftentimes get caught up in what’s hot at the moment on Pinterest, but don’t let that detract your from what you reallywant! 80% of the pins on Pinterest are repins – so you’re probably being inundated with the same images over and over again. Once you’re engaged it’s important to keep your eyes open to all of the beautiful color palettes out there, even those inspired by your favorite treats!

    This wedding inspiration board was inspired by one of my favorite ice cream snacks – a creamsicle! The orange, the delicious vanilla ice cream, what’s not to love?!

    {Real Wedding} Colorful + Whimsical Fall Wedding at Calimigos Ranch

    Happy Monday!  Did anyone have an especially great weekend?  My son turned two yesterday and we took him to Disneyland and Carsland for the first time.  I always swore that when I was a mom I wouldn’t take my kids there until they were four and could remember and appreciate it.  Then I had a kid who loves Mickey and McQueen and I totally caved.  And you know what?  He had more fun than I’ve ever seen!  No, he won’t remember it, but I always will.

    Sorry, proud momma moment over.  On to weddings!  Today’s wedding from Jennifer Roper (who just so happened to be my own wedding photographer!) is so full of color I just want to live in the gorgeous images.  Such a great example of a fall wedding that isn’t just orange.

    Did I tell you?  I especially love all of the ferris wheel photos and that gorgeous color of orange for the bridesmaids dresses!  The florals are the perfect mix of whimsy and color, and the venue is a perfect match for the feel of this wedding.  Do you love the colorful palette as much as I do?

    {Real Wedding} Sara & Joe: DIY Autumn Wedding at the Bride’s Parents’ Maryland Home

    There are a lot of weddings that I feature that I wish I could have attended as a guest because they look so lovely and fun, but today’s wedding is one I was actually invited to but couldn’t attend.  I’ve known Joey for forever – he was my brother’s best friend growing up.  Making the trip to Maryland from LA with an 11 month old, alone while my husband was in Romania filming Hatfields & McCoys, was not something I could make happen, so I missed Joey & Sara’s wedding.  I sure did miss out on one gorgeous and fun fall wedding.  I’m honored to get to share it with you today.  Oh, and I featured their adorable proposal story here, and their engagement photos here.

    Things will “go wrong.” Before we left my parents’ house for the ceremony we couldn’t find our wedding bands.  My mom and I tore through the house for 5 minutes and then realized we were going to be late if we kept looking.  My maid of honor immediately offered her band (it fit perfectly!) and Joe borrowed one of his groomsmen’s rings.  It turned out to be an ongoing source of laughs throughout the ceremony, as our friends’ rings were “re-blessed” and as we exchanged their rings.  I’m actually glad that it happened, as it made us laugh the whole day through and continues to be a story re-told.

    {your wedding style}
    We went for a backyard-fall theme.  For the centerpieces and decorations, we used a variety of small gourds and orange/white pumpkins, candles and wildflowers.  For the name cards, we wrote guests’ name and table table number on small brown paper sleeves filled with candy corn.  We were excited to include mini maple syrup in jars as our favors, as my family has a history of working in the maple camps in Pennsylvania.

    {a favorite moment from the day}
    Joe told me from the time we got engaged that he would prefer not to have cake smashed in his face.  I prodded a bit, but in the end, we agreed to politely serve each other our first bites.  How SURPRISED was I when he gave me a perfect wedding present –  smashing the cake in my face!  I smashed back, pretty dramatically.  It was one of my favorite moments of the day.

    {What made your wedding YOU?}
    Throughout the whole process, from the engagement on, we were humbled by the love and generosity that we experienced from our family, wedding party and friends.  We had so much help from both sides of the family and friends, from building the invitations to assembling the centerpieces to creating hotel bags.  Everything was made easier and fun with the help and support of our loved ones, and we will always be grateful for every ounce of help that we received.

    I especially love Sara’s dramatic, yet simple bridal bouquet.  I think it tops off her bridal style perfectly.  I think fall weddings are my favorite, and I just love the cozy feeling I get from the stunning photos by Kate Haus Photography.  Do you love fall weddings as much as me?  What’s your favorite detail from Sara & Joe’s wedding?  And congrats to this sweet couple as they approach their one year anniversary!  Thanks for letting me share your day.

    {Real Wedding} Melissa & Bryan: Rustic Fall Wedding at Camarillo Ranch

    It’s officially fall!  And even though it still doesn’t feel like it here (did anyone watch the Emmy’s last night and see how hot it was for everyone?) I’m determined to get into the fall spirit, and this rustic ranch wedding is just the thing to start of this fall week!

    We used dozens of old lace or embroidered table clothes that our grandmothers or aunts have had, to cover the hay bales that our guests sat on during the ceremony. It was a great way to include our extended family in our day. rustic fall wedding at camarillo ranch | photos by epic imagery

    {Advice for planning couples}
    Plan well ahead of time. It was important for my husband and I to really enjoy each aspect of our wedding day and we planned out how to do that with our talented photographer and our amazing wedding coordinator. rustic fall wedding at camarillo ranch | photos by epic imagery

    Any special traditions?
    My garter was a garter that is being passed down to every new bride in my husband’s family. It was originally my husband’s cousin’s garter, she passed it along to me and I will pass it on to the next bride. We have a box that each bride signs with her maiden name, wedding date and her new husband’s name. rustic fall wedding at camarillo ranch | photos by epic imagery

    To make my wedding me, I stuck to my initial idea of how I envisioned my day and really ran with that. I wanted my day to have meaning to not only for me but for my guests too so that was all in the little details.

    I’m a big fan of the hay-bale seating in the round for the ceremony.  And the florals are perfection, don’t you think?  So many lovely details in this wedding!  Did it get you in the mood for fall?
    Oh, and I just found out today that it is this couple’s one year wedding anniversary!  How crazy is it that I randomly featured their wedding on their anniversary without even knowing!?  Wish them a happy day!
