    Handmade Autumn Garden Wedding: Amanda & Eric

    autumn dreamy garden wedding by soda fountain photographyWhen I saw the photos of the flower girls in this wedding, I immediately thought of photos from Kate Moss’s wedding where she had lots of adorable little girls in white dresses and floral crowns. Then the rest of the photos showed a dreamy garden wedding, and I fell in love.  The flower girls, the bride’s braided-do, the gorgeous orange florals. All so swoon-worthy.  And pin-worthy. This one’s sure to inspire!

    autumn dreamy garden wedding by soda fountain photography autumn dreamy garden wedding by soda fountain photography autumn dreamy garden wedding by soda fountain photography My advice for brides planning their wedding right now – be flexible … Things don’t always look or happen the way you imagined that they would, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

Our budget was fairly small because we had such a large guest list. I knew I could make it work, since my sisters and I had always drooled over weddings featured in blogs and details for sale on Etsy. I wanted a wedding with a vintage feel that reminded me of the old photos of our grandparent’s weddings and of my engagement ring (a family heirloom that once belonged to Eric’s great-grandmother). Most of the elements were handmade by my family and I, and some by the lovely vendors on Etsy. My Aunt made a really adorable cake topper for our cake with some of our favorite book titles. Eric and I scoured every used bookstore and antique store in the area for books to use as centerpieces. My mom, sisters, and I made a sweet photo display with family wedding pictures, a “Here Comes the Bride” sign for the flower girls to carry, favor tags, escort cards with little yellow crepe paper flowers (that took way too long to assemble!), confetti, and programs. We wanted our wedding to be warm, celebratory, authentic, and lighthearted.  A close friend was our officiant, all three of my sisters were my Maids of Honor, my sisters in-law read passages from a few favorite poems during the ceremony, and all of my little cousins were flower girls- we wanted everyone involved!

    This wedding sets such a great example of what you can do with a small budget if you use your (and your family’s) DIY skills & handmade artists – a wedding that is personal, unique, and YOU.

    Floral Centerpiece Ideas for Spring

    spring wedding centerpiece idea

    Spring is (almost) officially here, which means Spring wedding season is upon us.  If you are still finalizing your florals or planning a wedding for next Spring, I’m sharing some pretty centerpiece ideas for your Spring wedding.

    {Vibrant Peaches & Pinks}

    spring-wedding reception centerpiece pink peach wedding flowers

    What says ‘Spring’ more than brightl colors?  The incorporation of peonies and peaches in your centerpieces are perfect for your Spring wedding.  The sherbert colors are fresh, warm, and fun.

    {Yellow & Green}

    spring wedding green and yellow florals

    Don’t daffodils just announce spring when they start popping up?  When I was a little girl, my favorite thing about spring was when our hillside turned yellow with daffodils and I would pick bouquets everyday.  This mix of daffodils, tulips, snowdrops, and ranuculus make the perfect spring table.

    {Pretty White Tulips}

    The flower that most symbolizes Spring for me is the tulip.  Make them even lovelier by grouping a large group of white tulips together.  I also love large groupings of white hydrangea (another great bloom that shows up in Spring).

    {Soft Pastel Spring Florals}

    If brights or whites aren’t your thing, these muted pastel florals also make lovely Spring centerpieces.  Need more pastel wedding inspiration?  Check out this pastel palette inspiration. And did you know you can search by color and season on Oh Lovely Day?  Yep! Just hover over ‘Inspiration’ in the navigation menu and a drop down menu will appear for color, style, and season.

    What is your favorite Spring centerpiece style?  Remember to keep your florals in season to ensure you will have them for available for your wedding and to keep them more budget-friendly. {Real Wedding} Lauren & Scott: Peach & Coral Romantic Malibu Wedding

    peach & pink malibu wedding | dessert display by my sweet and saucy shopOh, I do love a girly wedding. And today’s wedding fits the bill perfectly with it’s lovely color palette of peaches and pinks, impecably designed and styled by GATHER Events and all captured by Sun and Sparrow. Add touches of gold, kraft, burlap, and vintage treasures and you’ve got one pretty wedding.

    coral and peach malibu weddingFrom the bride:  My best advice is not to compromise the ideas that are important to you. Through DIY projects, help from family and friends, and LOTS of time, you can make your vision come to life and work in your budget. I had so many ideas for what I wanted and I am glad I was able to execute them all (thanks in large part to the ladies at GATHER Events). Looking back, I am so in love with all the details, and am proud of how it all came together.

    coral and peach malibu wedding | sun and sparrow photography & gather eventsThis wedding was full of DIY details. We worked with Gather Events to come up with all of the design elements and then my family and friends helped to implement each tiny detail. Some examples of DIY projects we did were the table runners, the napkins, the burlap silverware pouches, the fabric details on the straws, and the stamped pouches for the toss as we came back down the aisle as Mr. and Mrs.

    coral and peach malibu wedding | sun and sparrow photography & gather events And here’s even more about this gorgeous wedding, and how it all came together, from GATHER Events:

    Lauren and Scott…what a lovely couple! Lauren is a woman who knows what she wants. She knew right away that she wanted to be Scott’s wife and, when that plan fell into place, she knew exactly how she wanted their wedding day to look and feel. We set out together to bring her vision of vintage, rustic romantic to life, while incorporating lots of personal details and a whole lot of support from friends and family…and burlap, lots of burlap!

    Coral was a must-have color for this bride and was brought out in the bridesmaids’ dresses and in much of the floral design. To soften the color we added in a softer peach tone; to add a little glamour, we incorporated plenty of gold! The rustic setting at Calamigos Ranch was complemented with custom wood-engraved event signage and burlap curtains and draping for the two bars (with gold blocking for a touch of glam). Vintage elements ran throughout the entire event space, from the antique sewing table and French doors at the altar, to the chandelier over the bar, to the vintage clocks at each dinner able. Twelve vintage clocks at each dinner table centerpiece vignette served double duty as table numbers. To correspond to the table clocks set to one o’clock, two o’clock, etc., we stamped a clock graphic on the escort cards pointing to the corresponding time at each guest’s table. The guests had great fun finding their dinner “time” table.

    Friends and family lent tremendous help in pulling off Lauren and Scott’s wedding design. Scott’s mother sewed all of the table runners; his aunt sewed the napkins and burlap silverware pouches; Lauren and her friends tied fabric strips onto straws and name tags onto handled mason jars. We really put them to work! At the end of the day, Lauren and Scott felt so gratified knowing that their loved ones contributed so much to their special day. The father of Lauren’s maid of honor and best friend since childhood officiated the ceremony. We referenced Lauren’s love of country music in their spiked Arnold Palmer signature cocktail renamed, Meet In The Middle. The outdoor living room area dubbed “Lovers Lounge” provided a perfect spot for the couple to sneak away for a few moments and take it all in. Special, personal details were everywhere one looked and were a complete reflection of this couple. In the end, Lauren got exactly what she wanted: the perfect man and the perfect day to celebrate.

    Don’t you just love those details!  That sweets table, personal elements, the pretty vintage touches…total swoonfest happening over here.  And from Oh Lovely Day’s new color palette, you can tell I’m in love with the bride’s color choices.  Congrats to Lauren & Scott and a job well done to all of the vendors involved!  Check out the gallery for even more.  And be sure to head over to our facebook page to see the announcement of our celebration giveaway winner later today!

    {Styled Shoot} Vintage Farm-to-Table Wedding in Southern California

    I think styled shoots can be a great opportunity for planning brides to get inspired or find ideas they can make their own.  My favorite styled shoots are simple, budget-friendly, and full of pretty.  Today’s vintage farm-to-table inspired shoot is no exception.  Here’s a bit about the concept from the vendors involved.

    Rustic vintage elegance was the theme for this Southern California wedding shoot by ae martin photography and Leslie Miller Event Design. The details were inspired by sweet romance and the carefree days.

    The hors d’ouvres table was adorned with vintage classic books, antique tea cups, and mason jars filled with lavender lemonade.  Kiwi slices were added for a dash of summer green.  The chef from Heirloom Gatherings chose simple yet delicious and colorful treats like bruschetta, cheese boards, and s’mores for dessert.  French macarons added a classic sweet touch.  The dinner table, set in a quiet meadow, was full of hand-me-down china and glassware.  Old fashioned ink well jars served as candle holders.  Homemade blackberry jam jars and candied almond satchels for favors finished the look.

    The florals by Flowerchild were designed with a soft natural color palette, including pink blush roses, dusty miller, white dahlias, bay leaves, lavender, and amarathus hand-tied with ivory ribbon, pearls, and embellished with a vintage broach.  The bride’s hair was set in soft curls adorned with handmade hair pieces by Acute Designs.  The bride wore several different dresses; a classic Maggie Sottero, a flirty tea length gown hand made by Peppermint Pretty, and a trendy blush colored Rodarte.  Her shoes, of course, were old cowboy boots.  Her earrings were handmade from crystals recycled from an old wedding gown.  The groom’s textured tan clothing and suspenders fit in perfectly with the farm setting.

    I honestly don’t know what I love the most from this shoot.  The bouquet is perfection, those dresses (especially that blush Rodarte!) are fab, and that beautifully set table in a meadow…I die!  And I love the farm-to-table menu.  In fact, it inspired a post I’ll be sharing next week, so be sure to check back.  Hint: it might be a little cheesy.
