    Advice for couples planning now?  Don’t get mad if your fianceé seems uninterested in the details – he cares! He proposed didn’t he? Planning a wedding isn’t most guys’ thing – they want it to be your dream day so they let you make all the decisions; all they care about is spending the rest of their lives with you. Also, be grateful for all the support you are receiving and show your appreciation, especially to your bridesmaids and parents.

    What made my wedding me?  I am a girly girl at heart so the pink definitely fit with my personality.  We had lots of light pink roses and baby’s breath – feminine and romantic!

Soft, delicate, feminine, and romantic. Also really loving that needlepoint wedding sign, which the couple could display in their home after their wedding day.

    Floral Centerpiece Ideas for Spring

    spring wedding centerpiece idea

    Spring is (almost) officially here, which means Spring wedding season is upon us.  If you are still finalizing your florals or planning a wedding for next Spring, I’m sharing some pretty centerpiece ideas for your Spring wedding.

    {Vibrant Peaches & Pinks}

    spring-wedding reception centerpiece pink peach wedding flowers

    What says ‘Spring’ more than brightl colors?  The incorporation of peonies and peaches in your centerpieces are perfect for your Spring wedding.  The sherbert colors are fresh, warm, and fun.

    {Yellow & Green}

    spring wedding green and yellow florals

    Don’t daffodils just announce spring when they start popping up?  When I was a little girl, my favorite thing about spring was when our hillside turned yellow with daffodils and I would pick bouquets everyday.  This mix of daffodils, tulips, snowdrops, and ranuculus make the perfect spring table.

    {Pretty White Tulips}

    The flower that most symbolizes Spring for me is the tulip.  Make them even lovelier by grouping a large group of white tulips together.  I also love large groupings of white hydrangea (another great bloom that shows up in Spring).

    {Soft Pastel Spring Florals}

    If brights or whites aren’t your thing, these muted pastel florals also make lovely Spring centerpieces.  Need more pastel wedding inspiration?  Check out this pastel palette inspiration. And did you know you can search by color and season on Oh Lovely Day?  Yep! Just hover over ‘Inspiration’ in the navigation menu and a drop down menu will appear for color, style, and season.

    {DIY} Ribbon + Lace Backdrop Tutorial

    As I mentioned recently, Oh Lovely Day is looking for DIY contributors & submissions.  I was thrilled to get some great submissions and applications after I originally announced, and today I’m sharing our first DIY contribution that I know you’re going to love: A Ribbon + Lace Backdrop DIY tutorial.

    Hello Oh Lovely Day readers! I’m Michaela and I’m thrilled to be sharing a recent Do it Yourself project. My cousin is getting married in March and her wedding is going to be a gorgeous mix of blush pink, mercury glass, metallic finishes, luscious flowers and pretty, eclectic details. She’s going to have a photo booth in one corner of the reception for guests to play around with, so we decided to create the backdrop ourselves.  With about 20 yards of various shades of pink, gray and cream ribbon, we did just that!  Here’s how we did it:

    Materials: Glue gun, ribbon, cord, lace,  rope or a strong pipping (to attach all your ribbon to), tape measure, and scissors.

    Step 1: With your tape measure, measure how wide you want your ribbon backdrop to span. We made ours 6ft wide by 5ft long, because we figured that was large enough for a few people to fit into one photo frame.
    Step 2: Cut your strips of ribbon and lace and lay them out in the pattern you want to glue them in.  I suggest this, because we realized we bought about 10 rolls of ribbon we weren’t going to need– back to the store they went!
    Step 3: Wrap the top of the ribbon around the cord.  We chose a sturdy white cord typically used for trim. It’s the perfect weight to hold all this ribbon.  We wanted to be able to adjust the positioning of the ribbon on the day of (in case anything needed to be fixed due to travel), so we made the ribbon wrap around the cord which enables it to be slid right or left, similar to a curtain panel on a rod.
    Step 4: Continue gluing ribbon until you reach the end of the cord.  Leave about 8 inches on either end so you can easily tie the ribbon backdrop wherever you need to attach it.

    We’re so excited about how it turned out.  Thanks so much, Chandra, for letting me share our pink and lace photo booth backdrop project. You’re a doll :)

    {Real Wedding} Lauren & Scott: Peach & Coral Romantic Malibu Wedding

    peach & pink malibu wedding | dessert display by my sweet and saucy shopOh, I do love a girly wedding. And today’s wedding fits the bill perfectly with it’s lovely color palette of peaches and pinks, impecably designed and styled by GATHER Events and all captured by Sun and Sparrow. Add touches of gold, kraft, burlap, and vintage treasures and you’ve got one pretty wedding.

    coral and peach malibu weddingFrom the bride:  My best advice is not to compromise the ideas that are important to you. Through DIY projects, help from family and friends, and LOTS of time, you can make your vision come to life and work in your budget. I had so many ideas for what I wanted and I am glad I was able to execute them all (thanks in large part to the ladies at GATHER Events). Looking back, I am so in love with all the details, and am proud of how it all came together.

    coral and peach malibu wedding | sun and sparrow photography & gather eventsThis wedding was full of DIY details. We worked with Gather Events to come up with all of the design elements and then my family and friends helped to implement each tiny detail. Some examples of DIY projects we did were the table runners, the napkins, the burlap silverware pouches, the fabric details on the straws, and the stamped pouches for the toss as we came back down the aisle as Mr. and Mrs.

    coral and peach malibu wedding | sun and sparrow photography & gather events And here’s even more about this gorgeous wedding, and how it all came together, from GATHER Events:

    Lauren and Scott…what a lovely couple! Lauren is a woman who knows what she wants. She knew right away that she wanted to be Scott’s wife and, when that plan fell into place, she knew exactly how she wanted their wedding day to look and feel. We set out together to bring her vision of vintage, rustic romantic to life, while incorporating lots of personal details and a whole lot of support from friends and family…and burlap, lots of burlap!

    Coral was a must-have color for this bride and was brought out in the bridesmaids’ dresses and in much of the floral design. To soften the color we added in a softer peach tone; to add a little glamour, we incorporated plenty of gold! The rustic setting at Calamigos Ranch was complemented with custom wood-engraved event signage and burlap curtains and draping for the two bars (with gold blocking for a touch of glam). Vintage elements ran throughout the entire event space, from the antique sewing table and French doors at the altar, to the chandelier over the bar, to the vintage clocks at each dinner able. Twelve vintage clocks at each dinner table centerpiece vignette served double duty as table numbers. To correspond to the table clocks set to one o’clock, two o’clock, etc., we stamped a clock graphic on the escort cards pointing to the corresponding time at each guest’s table. The guests had great fun finding their dinner “time” table.

    Friends and family lent tremendous help in pulling off Lauren and Scott’s wedding design. Scott’s mother sewed all of the table runners; his aunt sewed the napkins and burlap silverware pouches; Lauren and her friends tied fabric strips onto straws and name tags onto handled mason jars. We really put them to work! At the end of the day, Lauren and Scott felt so gratified knowing that their loved ones contributed so much to their special day. The father of Lauren’s maid of honor and best friend since childhood officiated the ceremony. We referenced Lauren’s love of country music in their spiked Arnold Palmer signature cocktail renamed, Meet In The Middle. The outdoor living room area dubbed “Lovers Lounge” provided a perfect spot for the couple to sneak away for a few moments and take it all in. Special, personal details were everywhere one looked and were a complete reflection of this couple. In the end, Lauren got exactly what she wanted: the perfect man and the perfect day to celebrate.

    Don’t you just love those details!  That sweets table, personal elements, the pretty vintage touches…total swoonfest happening over here.  And from Oh Lovely Day’s new color palette, you can tell I’m in love with the bride’s color choices.  Congrats to Lauren & Scott and a job well done to all of the vendors involved!  Check out the gallery for even more.  And be sure to head over to our facebook page to see the announcement of our celebration giveaway winner later today!
