    Summer Signature Cocktail Recipe: Blueberry Lemonade Fizz from Valley & Co.

    Blueberry lemonade fizz from Valley & Co. | Rippee PhotographySummer weather has crept in around the Pacific Northwest. That can only mean one thing: cocktail time! This recipe is easy to make in a snap when guests show up for impromptu entertaining but would also make one pretty little signature drink at a wedding. Make them in batches in decorative glass pitchers!

    Valley & Co.’s Blueberry Lemonade Fizz

    For this cocktail you’ll need: 1 can San Pellegrino Limonata {you’ll need about a half for each drink} | 1 oz. good vodka {or light rum} for each drink | fresh blueberries | fresh mint | 1tsp. sugar

    Sprinkle a few blueberries into each bistro glass with sugar. Do a tiny bit of muddling.

    Pink DIY Kansas wedding by Amanda Perry Photography
    Today’s wedding is a pretty, pink, all-DIY celebration.  The muted tones and frilly and lace details make this a feminine wedding sure to please all romantic brides.  If you love pink, this one’s for you!

    My favorite moment of our wedding day was my mom giving me away. She has been by my side my entire life and has helped me in so many ways. It was important for me that she was there and able to be by my side. I couldn’t imagine our wedding without her.

    I made my wedding “me” by adding in a little vintage and making everything by hand. Thrift stores, vintage shops and the dollar store REALLY came in handy.

    I think the pretty pink florals and the feminine touches like the bride’s gown and the lace on the bouquet are my favorite details of this wedding.  That bouquet is just stunning!  What’s your favorite detail?

    {Real Wedding} Cassie & Bennet: Intimate Backyard DIY Wedding + Carnival-Themed Reception (Part 1)

    Happy Monday!  I know not everyone gets excited for Mondays, but I love them because I usually have a lovely wedding to share with you, and today I have one of my favorite weddings EVER.  It’s so fabulous and there are so many great details and images that I’m sharing it in two parts.  Today is the sweet and small backyard ceremony the couple had for just family and close friends, and tomorrow will be the fantastic carnival-themed reception with the best DIY details you’ve ever seen!

    Advice for planning couples?  Be yourself! It is easy to get caught up in pleasing everyone around you, but it is important to be able to look back at photos and see your own style shining through.

    I new I wanted all of my girls’ dresses to be different and unique to their styles, so I picked them out for them and gave them as gifts. Each dress got a different sash purchased from Etsy and I created custom lockets for each of the girls with a picture of us, the date of the wedding and a note inside.

    My bridesmaids and I walked down the aisle to “You’re Beautiful,” a beautiful worship song by Phil Wickham. The girls walked down while the song built and I walked down on the last verse *Fun side note: I trained for a half marathon in the Spring of my senior year in college.  I was on a killer hill on the last mile of nine mile training run when this song came on my playlist.  Listening to the incredible lyrics of the song completely inspired and overwhelmed me.  By the top of the hill I was in tears and knew that this was the song I would eventually walk down the aisle to… Bennett proposed three months later.  I also kept the song s surprise from Bennett. Needless to say, we were both tearful by the time I got down the aisle. Our recessional was “Beautiful Day” by U2. Such a victorious song!

    Tell us about your wedding style.  To be honest, I took just many of the things I love and just made them all fit into one day! I have long loved the vintage touch that inspired my dress and veil. I wanted the day to feel warm and bright and full of joy. The colors of the girls’ dresses were inspired by Spring flowers… and if you didn’t notice, nothing matched. In my book, when nothing matches, everything works :)

    Didn’t I tell you!?  When I saw this bride’s style, and those bridesmaids’ dresses, I knew I was in love.  The details, the florals, the couple’s story… there is just so much here to be inspired by.  And you haven’t even seen the reception yet!  You just wait… the details and the bride’s gorgeous red dress will have you swooning.  Come back tomorrow!

    {Real Wedding} Chelsea & Chris: Stunning Backyard DIY Wedding in British Columbia from Mikaela Ruth Photography

    stunning backyard DIY wedding in British Columbia by Mikaela Ruth

    Happy Monday, lovelies!  I hope you’re ready to start your week off with one fabulous wedding.  This is just the thing to wake you up and get you going – with the vibrant colors and stunning views, you won’t even need coffee.  Well, maybe just one cup.  But first…

    Did you watch the Golden Globes last night?  I used to love to do wrap up posts (and if you follow me on instagram I did comment on some of my favorites) but I’ve heard some horror stories of bloggers being sued by Getty Images for using photos without the proper license, so I’m going to just be safe and not post any photos.  However, I will say that I LOVED the white and gold gowns worn by Julianne Hough and Michelle Dockery.  And I saw lots of trends: mint, lots of nude and blush, and vibrant tomato red.  And Jessica Alba was gorgeous in coral, Jennifer Lopez wore a showstopper of a naked lace gown, and Naomi Watts rocked the oxblood trend.  I’d love to hear your best dressed in the comments!  Now, back to today’s wedding :)

    {advice to couples planning now}

    Stick to your guns! Remember that it is your wedding; everyone will have their opinions, but the most important opinion is your own.

    Our processional and recessional song was “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, which was played on the acoustic guitar by one of the groom’s best friends. This song has special significance to me; it reminds me of my grandma and was one of her favourite songs.

     Our first dance song was “You and Me” by Dave Matthews Band, which is my favourite band!

    Chelsea wore her mother’s wedding gown from the 80′s, which her aunt re-designed and re-made for Chelsea.  How special is that!?

    Besides re-working my wedding gown, my aunt Tracy hand crafted all of our place cards, table numbers, and seating chart. Chris’s mom  makes the most delicious crab apple jelly. I knew right from the beginning that crab apple jelly would be our wedding favours. She made over 100 little jars of jelly, which we outfitted with burlap, personalized stickers and little apple stamped wooden spoons (also done by my Aunt). My mom, Carolyn Strand, made our wedding cake.

    For Chris and I, it was all of the personal touches and support from our family and friends that made our wedding all that we wanted it to be and more. We wanted to show our guests who we were, where we came from, and the importance of family and friends in our lives.
    I don’t know what I love more, the fabulous florals, the gorgeous color of the bridesmaids’ dresses, or the bride’s stunning style.  Plus, all of those great DIY details add just the right handmade touch to this personal wedding.  What’s your favorite part?

    {Real Wedding} Lauren & Robby: A Quirky + Relaxed Winery Wedding

    This couple wanted to keep things simple and relaxed and do most of their wedding themselves.  The florals were DIY, the decor and signs were DIY, the bride even made the groom’s tie, and the groom made all four types of beer served to the guests.  The bride even got a wedding day tattoo of the groom’s initials behind her ear.  That’s love!

    {favorite moment of the day}
    During the processional, when my father and I were coming up through the vineyard, Robby and I had asked the DJ to play the bridal march, then scratch the disc, and play the imperial march from Star Wars. I am a bit of a dork, but mostly thought it would be hilarious to have this ominous sound track playing as I approached the altar. Everyone started laughing and my nervousness disappeared completely (OK, almost completely). It took some of the seriousness out of the affair and reminded me that we were here to celebrate, and to be ourselves.

    {how did you make your wedding you?}
    We wanted to have a relaxed feel to our wedding. Robby and I have been together for 5 years, own a home together, have a pup together, so we kind of did things backwards when compared to tradition. We wanted to have a celebration of our union and to bring together our friends and family for a beautiful party. A stuffy formal ballroom just wouldn’t have felt appropriate. We lucked out with absolutely gorgeous weather, fine friends, and a truly great experience.

    Don’t you love those bright yellow bouquets, and the DIY florals with the DIY painted mason jar containers?  And I so love the bride’s style – that birdcage veil, Claire Pettibone gown, rosette shoes, all on such a gorgeous bride.  And what a fun sense of humor – I’ve never heard of anyone playing the Imperial March from Star Wars as the Processional, and it might be the best thing ever.  I love that they let their personalities shine through, and created some humor in a usually super serious moment.
