Today’s DIY is another from Hannah of The Homesteady, from her own wedding (which we’ll be featuring very very soon!). I thought that a nice simple DIY for the day after Labor Day weekend would be the perfect fit. These are easy to make and fun to collect, a great combination! My wife Kristie was all too excited to whip out the handsaw and create all 150 of our placecard holders—from wine corks! As far as collecting DIY supplies goes, we had a lot of fun amassing as many wine corks as we could. Our friends and family jumped at the chance to help our quest; my mother’s friends even pilfered a few from neighbors’ recycling bins!
Using the handsaw, Kristie sliced off a sliver of each cork (on the long side) to keep it from rolling. Then, she cut a notch in the top of the cork, making sure to cut it at an angle and not straight up and down (this way, guests could read the placecards without having to bend down). I hand-stamped cards from Paper Source and we settled each one into its cork holder.
This project added an extra handmade touch, and I know our guests appreciated it. My boss is keeping hers—cork and all—on her desk at work!
Don’t you love these for a rustic or vineyard wedding? They would also be perfect for a rehearsal dinner or dinner party. And if you missed it, be sure to check out Hannah and Kristie’s romantic countryside engagement session.
