• Beauty Tutorial: Vintage Look With a Modern Twist

Vintage Beauty Tutorial | Photos by Cassandra Photo; Hair & Styling by Maritza Buelvas; Makeup by Brenda Arelano I don’t often share beauty tutorials on the blog, but I do love them, so when Maritza Buelvas sent this my way I thought you might love it too. While this can help you recreate your own Mad Men-inspired look with a modern edge for your wedding day, you could also use it for a date night, school dance, as a bridesmaid, or for a fun night out with the girls. You don’t have to be a bride-to-be to try it out! Here are Maritza’s styling tips for creating your own Mad Men inspired beauty look, complete with a step-by-step tutorial.

I recommend pairing Old Hollywood or vintage styles with modern staples for the ultimate bombshell look. Try the following look, two ways – keep things simple without any hair accessories or top things off with a slinky head chain for extra sultriness.

Here are a few beauty tips and product suggestions for re-creating a Mad Men inspired look with a modern edge.

Step One: Curl long hair to mold hair and allow for pinning up into a faux bob.

Step Two: Tease at the crown, sides, nape and front to create volume and apply spray to set curls. Pin horizontal curled sections downwards towards the nape of the neck and set curl in place with pins tucked in criss cross position. This criss cross motion allows for hair not to move since you are creating a faux bob. Pin curls around the entire head using this same technique.

Step Three: Tease at ends to create volume and hold where need be. Add holding spray. Add a touch of trendy glam by incorporating a head chain (if desired) or wear without.

Step Four: Create a nude lid by blending dainty pinks and highlighting the crease with matte taupe eyeshadow

Step Five: Apply false lashes, soft pink blush and matte pink lipstick in your favorite shade.

We had our first date 20 years ago today when we were practically babies in high school. We were on and off (and on and off and on and off) through college, survived a 3 year long distance relationship before there was FaceTime and when one of us didn't even have a cell phone. We've done 11 years of sharing a bathroom, almost 6 years of marriage, and now almost 3 babies. Some days have been so easy, and others are incredibly hard. Each day we make a choice to love each other and enjoy this beautiful life together. And to do it our way, following our dreams and raising our children to be open minded, good and kind people. Our way, ride or die, till the wheels fall off. Me and you. Happy 20 year date-a-versary my social media-less hunk of a husband.❤️ We should have gotten a sitter // by @hazelnutphoto from our gender reveal, which I'll be sharing next week!
Had a super #happymail day thanks to the 2016 calendar preview from @papersource. At first I was all like "the color, the design, the pretty, oh my! " but then I thought "2016, January, due date, holy shit! " I feel like the next 6 months just flashed before my eyes. Slow down 2015. The calendars and planners are real purty tho. #mypscalendar
