Charlie's Big Boy Room Tour | Oh Lovely Day

Now that I’ve shared a couple of DIY’s from Charlie’s room on Momtastic, I thought I’d share his finished room with you here. It is the only room that is completely finished and I really love how it turned out. And so does Charlie. We moved, potty trained, and ditched the crib for a bed, so with all of those changes I wanted to make a room fit for a big boy, and full of fun.

Charlie loves to read and loves going to the bookstore, so I wanted to make a little reading nook for him that was even better, with picture ledge shelves from IKEA displaying his favorite books and a big furry poof to read on from PB Teen. My mom painted Charlie the owls for his nursery and I wanted to keep them in his new room. And the bear, which is one of my favorite touches, is from Near and Deer.

That dresser is an ikea hack DIY (you can find the full post on Momtastic here).

Charlie’s gallery wall was another fun project. I had so much art I wanted to include, but didn’t want to hang heavy frames on his wall (especially not over his bed). So I came up with a washi tape gallery wall solution (you can also find a full DIY post on over on Momtastic here). I especially love the Be Brave print from Charm & Gumption and the fur fox print. If you follow me on instagram you know my son was Macklemore for Halloween and loves his music (he loves music in general) so when I spotted the fur fox print I knew I had to incorporate it. Fox Bear Designs was sweet enough to edit the words too, so ours reads “I’m in this big ‘ole coat, from the thrift shop down the road.” I love it.

And then there’s the Land of Nod teepee. I had wanted to get Charlie a teepee since he was a year old, but we just didn’t have the space in our old home. Our new home has twice the space, and his room is twice as big, so he got a teepee for his 3rd birthday and it is a favorite of Charlie’s and all of his friends. He reads in it, plays with his stuffies in there, hides, and just lays in there and uses his imagination. I love how the colors and patters mix with the pattern of the curtains and the triangle decals from Walls by Mur. Oh, and I used the leftover faux fur from his Macklemore Halloween costume to make a teepee floor mat!

Charlie is obsessed with that IKEA road rug and plays cars on it daily (I really wanted to incorporate a more stylish rug, but given the amount of time he plays on that thing I choose function over style on this one!)

I hope you like the peek inside Charlie’s big boy room and it helps to inspire those of you transitioning your littles out of their nurseries as well. And if you like anything in the room, I’ve tried to include sources to everything below. And I hope to have more home tour posts ready for you soon – it is taking longer to unpack and style my new home than I thought, so I’m working on it 🙂

      Hi
Can I ask if these were the 21′ or the 45′ shelves from ikea?
      Thanks so much,
      Jill

Hi Jill, sorry I missed this. I originally bought the 21″ ones and then wanted them to be longer, so I put two together. In retrospect I would have gone for the 45″ ones since that is basically what they ended up being once I put two together 🙂

    • Got one little corner of the boys' soon-to-be-shared bedroom done today. Once the bunkbeds arrive I may totally rearrange things but for now I'm loving this @thelandofnod table for reading, doing puzzles, and there is a hidden bin underneath where I have a Lego topper hidden so we can make it a Lego table too. And store those puzzles with all of the little pieces that drive me insane Can't wait to finish and share more of this room (and move Cal in so I can move Quincy into the nursery and maybe get a little more sleep!) You can see the design process and inspiration that I did with the design services team from The Land of Nod on the blog as well (link in profile). #projectsharedboysbedroom #calvins3rdyear Waking up to the news of the devastation in Italy -- I left a piece of my heart there when we were on our honeymoon (this photo was taken in Orvieto). Sending thoughts and love to everyone there. So so sad.
And just like that, Calvin is more little boy than baby #calvins3rdyear #boyhood L O V E ❤️ It really is all you need. What the world needs. What we all need.
