• {Real Wedding} Christine & Andrew: Totally Handmade + Unique North Carolina Wedding

couple at sunset in this handmade North Carolina weddingYou know how I always say “make it you?”  Well, this couple truly took that to heart while planning their own wedding.  After strongly resisting the urge to elope, this couple decided if they were going to have a wedding, they were going to do it their way and really tailor it to reflect who they were as a couple.  And while they infused it with all handmade details, fun elements, and other things they loved, they really put their ceremony at the forefront of their day (which seems to be less and less common these days).

What WE think made our wedding MOST unique, is that we really tried to make the CEREMONY the main event. Often times, the ceremony seems to be a quick 20 minute generic service, and the reception is where it’s at. Don’t get us wrong, our reception was fun, but we wanted to make sure that no one forgot the REAL reason we were all gathered… to make a covenant. We really wanted to use our wedding as a tool to witness to and involve our friends and family in our marriage… and we think, at least we hope, that was accomplished… it definitely impacted us, to say the least.

Our wedding was a mix of rustic (Andrew) and vintage (Christine) and if it wasn’t handmade by us, it was bought from a handmade shop on Etsy. The music was all hand picked from our iPod, with selections from All Sons and Daughters, Gungor, Rend Collective Experiment, JJ Heller, Phil Whickham, Andrew Peterson, etc. The ceremony and reception, both took place in an old Rock Quarry… we had a bonfire lit and our favors were S’mores kits… and we even jumped off a cliff, into the water, in our wedding clothes! (with life jackets too, of course).

I love that they put their emphasis on the ceremony, which is something my husband and I tried to do as well.  If you aren’t having a religious ceremony in a church or house of worship it is really up to the couple to build the ceremony they want.  This couple added their own ideas; my husband and I wrote our own ceremony that included a ringwarming to make ours personal.

Plus, the handmade details, mustard yellow color palette, and gorgeous lace bridal gown are fabulous too :)  Congrats to this sweet couple!

Would never have thought mustard could work so well as an accent colour, but it looks fantastic. Sun shiny loveliness!

We had our first date 20 years ago today when we were practically babies in high school. We were on and off (and on and off and on and off) through college, survived a 3 year long distance relationship before there was FaceTime and when one of us didn't even have a cell phone. We've done 11 years of sharing a bathroom, almost 6 years of marriage, and now almost 3 babies. Some days have been so easy, and others are incredibly hard. Each day we make a choice to love each other and enjoy this beautiful life together. And to do it our way, following our dreams and raising our children to be open minded, good and kind people. Our way, ride or die, till the wheels fall off. Me and you. Happy 20 year date-a-versary my social media-less hunk of a husband.❤️ We should have gotten a sitter // by @hazelnutphoto from our gender reveal, which I'll be sharing next week!
Had a super #happymail day thanks to the 2016 calendar preview from @papersource. At first I was all like "the color, the design, the pretty, oh my! " but then I thought "2016, January, due date, holy shit! " I feel like the next 6 months just flashed before my eyes. Slow down 2015. The calendars and planners are real purty tho. #mypscalendar
